I travel a lot in NM and most people I come across believe that the "greenies" have a part in causing this problem. Statements like this clip, are going to turn up the "heat" on them even more.

Video clip of Prof. Wally Covington talking on how to fix the forest.

The radical groups even fought his research, filing lawsuits and/or appeals to prevent thinning used as part of his study.

In my heart of hearts, I believe these envirowhackos deliberately mismanaged our forests (saving money in the process for the Clinton Administration), knowing full well that one day a major conflaguration would drive away all the house owners. If Gore were president right now (whoa! I can't believe I wrote that), his Interior Department (headed by Babbitt) would declare ALL burnt lands uninhabitable because of the threat to human life. Then they would introduce a couple thousand wolves just to make sure it was inhabitable to humans.

Wildfire today is inflicting nightmarish wounds, injuries made worse by a failure to heed scientific warnings. For example, and there are three of them here that they list. In 1994, Wallace Covington, a Professor of Forest Ecology at Northern Arizona University and a nationally recognized fire scientist and a colleague warned that the Kendrick Mountain wilderness area in northern Arizona was so crowded with vegetation that it was ready to explode. ``Delay will only perpetuate fuel build-up and increase the potential for uncontrolled and destructive wildfires,'' they wrote in a scientific analysis for the Kaibab National Forest. Some thinning was done, but not enough. Last year, a large fire swept through the region carving an apocalyptic trail of destruction.

Senator Kyle is a good man, and Arizona's true conservative Senator, unlike the other childish, selfcentered senator from the same State. I have been to Mt Graham to tour several very large telescopes in one of the National Astronomy Optical Observatories. These Observatories are located at the top of Mt. Graham, and is totally surounded with pine tree which are knee deep in dead, highly desicated pine needles. The Greenies will not allow the removal of these highly combustible debris, thus putting the lives of the Astronomers working and living there, and several $100 million of observatory equipment at risks. These environmentalist wackos are as dangrous as the alqaeda terrorists. They should be held to account for the devastation they have already caused, and future damage to lives, and properties.
