[history]
The federal government has rescinded its designation of nearly 4 million acres for the protection of the California red-legged frog after a legal challenge by home builders who said it would impede development in a vast region of Northern California.

They can move those poor little red-legged froggies to Yucca Mountain. They'll have a chance at becoming green again. Problem solved.

The headline could just as easily have read "The Public Wins 4 Million Acres."

I love frogs!
Frog Legs Sauce Piquant
12 medium size frog legs
1 cup cooking oil 1 cup flour
4 onions, chopped
1 small whole garlic, minced
1/2 stalk celery, chopped
1 or 2 green hot peppers, minced
2 cans whole tomatoes(20 ounces each)
1 can Ro-tel tomatoes(10 ounces)
1 cup water
Cooked white rice
Make a roux from the cooking oil and flour in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the roux is dark brown. Add the onions, garlic, celery and pepper. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes. Add all of the tomatoes, reserving juice for later. Cook the mixture for 5 more minutes. Add the juice from the two tomatoes. Add the frog legs and water. Let the mixture simmer, stirring occasionally, for at least 4 hours to blend the flavors well. Serve hot and over cooked white rice. Serves 8 to 10.
Yummy!

'Federal courts have also ordered the agency to redo designations for the cactus ferruginous pygmy owl, California gnatcatcher and the San Diego fairy shrimp. There have been lawsuits filed against designations for the northern spotted owl, the marbled murrelet, the Alameda whipsnake, the western snowy plover and the arroyo toad.'
Folks, you can't make this stuff up.

Being born and raised in Hannibal, Missouri, I remember one frog jumping contest clearly. The contestants would often hit the mat with their hands behind the frogs, trying to get them to jump. One little girl missed, and splattttt. Needless to say, that frog jumped no more.

For once I'll like to see these environmental wackos do the right thing.
If they are so darn worried about the planet, just off themselves and we will follow their example!!!
Earth first? Prove it!!!

That's a lot of work to cook some reptile. My Daddy just rolled them in egg batter, salt and pepper and bread crumbs and fried them. Fried the back and front legs extra crisp and ate them bones and all. This was the day after he and I walked the ditch banks of western Fresno County till midnite and gigged them .Meat was scarce during WWII but we never went without....sorry didn't mean to rant on.

Three of these critters are causing hardship here in Humboldt County. It would do much good to limit these listings.

As I recall, under the rules (if they are still in force) promulgated by then Vice President Gore, each potentially effected frog must be notified in writing of the change in the status of his/her habitat. I know, I now, but Gore was a stickler for this environmental stuff. If you think he is far out on this, you should see the positions he took regarding the Kyoto abortion.
