"If the city doesn't respect the feelings of some people, some people ought not to respect the feelings of the city," said local NAACP chapter president Sabu Williams.

The city council voted to keep the flag. That's the way we do things in America, Sabu. Get over it or leave.

I grew up in Crestview and I remember when Uncle Bill died and the memorial was dedicated (about 1 year later). The whole town turned out. There used to be a sign as you entered the then small town which read "Welcome to Crestview, Home of Uncle Bill Lundy, the Last Confederate Soldier". That flag is not and has never been about racism or hatred. It is a tribute and is taken very seriuosly by all the people who remember Uncle Bill. My sister's best friend is the neice of Lundy and according to her, this is one particular political activist who stirs this up periodically (usually around elections) just to test the wind and bring attention to himself.

Thanks for sharing, GreyWolf. We stand behind our brothers in Crestview. These rabble-rousers ought to let it be and find cause somewhere else. This is the South, this is Florida and we are going to honor our boys who went to the War, especially Uncle Bill.

Unfortunately: All Southerners will have to be vigilant until we can get some kind of legislative protection for our heritage.

Until then, we will have to fight the battles!

Deo Vindice!

You Dixie pingers are welcome to join my MSN forum group to discuss Confederate flag issues.

Here's a note recently posted by Bill Lundy's grandson:

Greetings,
This same thing is currently happening to my great-grandfathers monument in Crestview, Fl. The land, monument and flag was dedicated to him and erected in 1958...one year after his death. He was the oldest living confederate veteran and died at the age of 109! Anyway, the NAACP has now decided that it "must be took down"! It is not in front of the court house, but on a small piece of land about the size of a 20 by 20 foot sun room. Still, all of us Lundys are having a hard time fighting this. My great grand-father's name was William "Uncle Bill" Lundy. They was going to vote on maybe turning it over to a private group like a historical society, but the land belongs to the city and the city attorney said they could not do that. That flag has been up all these years and I am simply angry that they would do this to him, my family and all the other confederates' memories! It is wrong and nothing the NAACP can say will make it right! Thank you for listening to me rant. I usuall don't say any thing and just read the posts, because I am shy. But sometimes, I just can't seem to shut my mouth!
Bless you all,

God bless the Lundy's in their fight. Can you imagine the public outcry there would be if black graves were desecrated in this way?

Who is providing the funds for all of these anti-flag conventions>

The travel, room and board, supplies for the numerous silly signs must have a centralized source, since all the people these whiners "represent" don't have the money to spend for these isolated "outrages".

Interesting info for you at FReeppost *here*.

I guess the "Justice for All" thing is reserved for the fags, minorities & the Politicians. I guess the heterosexual Southern White Male seems to be $hit out of luck nowadays.

Liberalism in one of its purest forms. Cite emotion and feelings instead of truth and fact.

Slavery under this symbol (give or take a few stars) = 89 years (1776 - 1865)

Slavery under this symbol = 4 years (1861 - 1865)

If slavery is the main issue here, perhaps the NAACP should be redirecting its efforts.

And if the rest of the citizens say to "stuff it," then maybe you should just stuff it.

I was born and raised near DeFuniak and attended one of the annual birthday events while a child.

If I recall, he was the third (or perhaps second) to last veteran of the WBTS, and Florida's last.
