'Environmentalists' Endanger Sequoias

You don't have to be a tree hugger to love California's magnificent sequoias. But thanks to environment-destroying "environmentalists," these towering symbols of the West could go up in smoke.

A 38,000-acre fire roared through Giant Sequoia National Monument today and came within two miles of the Trail of 100 Giants. This majestic grove features some of God's greatest work, among the largest and most ancient living things on Earth, 1,500 years old.

Nuisance lawsuits lodged by "environmentalists" have abetted the growth of the fire. "The courts have blocked the removal of much of the underbrush on the monument's forest floor," the Associated Press reported today.

"Every other project we've tried to do, the environmentalists have filed a lawsuit," said forest ranger Dale Pengilly.

All that underbrush, along with weeks of drought, has increased the danger to the "priceless" trees, said Forest Service spokesman Matt Mathes.

"These trees can withstand a lot of fire, but if there's a lot of fuel buildup on the forest floor, and temperature and humidity and winds are not favorable, we could have a problem," he said.

Oh, and human lives and property are in danger too. More than 1,000 people have fled the area. At least 10 buildings have burned and 200 homes are at risk.

"I was scared. I've never seen it so close. It was coming so fast," said Simone Wallace, who left her home in Johnsondale on Sunday.

Now, thanks to tree-hugging hypocrites, more than 1,000 firefighters are risking themselves to save the sequoias.

The Sierra Club's executives and board members should be willing to lash themselves to the threatened ancient redwoods as a showing of commitment and solidarity as the flames of disaster approach. (/sarcasm)

IF they do show up at all, even to observe (the Sierra Club doesn't watch, they "observe"), will they emerge from SUV's?

Oh, and human lives and property are in danger too.

The environmental wackos don't care that human lives and property are in danger. They mention the fire can destroy "priceless" trees. How about how this fire could KILL priceless lives and property. Their thinking is so muddy.

One of the reasons that this forest is in danger and other burning forests and wildlands has been the enviralists no roads, no harvest and no brush thining agendas.

Their main poster boy in the Senate, Little Mullah Da$$hole has helped to enable these agendas as forestry service actions.

Now Little Mullah Da$$hole is trying to quietly allow logging in his home state to prevent these fires: (Daschle caught exempting only his home state from environmentalist agendas/lawsuits)

BTTT w/prayers that we'll be as smart as the people were during the Rodeo-Chediski fire. Forget the environmentalists, take care of business yourself if you live up there.

Here is the opportunity for all good Freepers to get into the face of the enviral fascists who have put a large part of our nation into the peril of becoming a flaming tinderbox. Ebuck has created a great bumpersticker to put the blame on these clymers as we drive our SUV's and pickups. What bothers me most about these people is their continual whining about the amount of polution in the atmosphere. How come it's okay to burn thousands and thousands of trees and allow all that soot and ash to be released into the atmosphere and infect thousands and thousands of people.

But ... if they had just allowed trucks and loggers into the area to clear away the dead trees, the amount of polution from the vehicles would have only been a thimble full compared to the burning of so many acres of trees.

Pathetic!
