Israeli intelligence: Narco-terror profits funded Sept. 11 attack

Special to World Tribune.com GEOSTRATEGY-DIRECT Friday, July 26, 2002 Profits from drugs shipped by Afghanistan were used by Al Qaida in carrying out the September 11 attacks, according to a classified report by Israel's police intelligence service.

Furthermore, Israeli intelligence has determined that Afghan drug traffickers reduced the price of opium to very low levels after September 11, in the hope of flooding the world with inexpensive heroin, said the report, disclosed by the Tel Aviv Maariv newspaper.

The Israelis estimate that the Taliban and Al Qaida have 2,800 tons of opium that can produce 280 tons of heroin worth some $80 billion in Europe. The stockpile could supply the continent for three years.

"This is how Muhammad Atta, who led the attack on the WTC, funded the activity," the report stated.

"There is a clear-cut connection between terror and crime, and the drug phenomenon has repercussions that go beyond crime and serious harm to public well-being," the report said. "The attack on the World Trade Center [WTC] underlines more than anything else how the drug problem constitutes a strategic threat on an international level, calling for world cooperation at the highest echelons in imposing the law."

The report noted that the U.S. military operations in the country may help to disrupt the illegal heroin trafficking from Afghanistan

The issue is what is the proper prescription for the problem. Certainly the War on Drugs will not stop them from getting more money. That is the only reason that they got money from drugs. Everyone should see clearly that the way to cut off the money is to legalize drugs NOW.

The desire to "lump it all together" makes it sound like the kid down the lane, who smokes a joint is in cahoots with Osami... which is a falsehood.

An equally true headline could read... "US Government Ads Incorrect: Marijuana and Coccaine not significant sources of terrostist funding!"

Ahh and then what? tax it? And what about the extra tax dollars that non drug users will have to throw into hospital care of the extra millions of Americans that decide to do drugs. Don't get me wrong.. I'm all for legalizing drugs simply fromt he stand point it is hypocritcal for the United States to legalize Alcohol and Tobacco and not other drugs. The reasoning being is Alcohol is really the most dangerous drug out there in terms of overall dependency and fatality rates.. from DUI's to liver damage. Plus anyone will tell you that drugs users that end up in gutters are one's that choose to be there.. Look at coke for example.. millions of people function on coke in the upscale rich lives.. maybe not millions but you get the point none the less.. it'st he morons that OD or become dependent(this part can vary by drug.. heroin is a nasty nasty drug). In any case what has been made clear is that the war on drugs is profitable for the Alcohol and Tobacco industries. People would diversify their interests a bit more if other drugs were legal.

Israel handles 50% of the uncut diamonds in the world. Their number two industry taking in over $12 billion a year. That is why Israeli intelligence doesn't want to mention Al Qaeda's diamond transactions. Bad for business. But you can bet they know everything there is to know about it.

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) - Fifteen people were arrested and more than $8 million worth of the party drug Ecstasy seized as part of a probe into a Southern California-based drug ring allegedly run by Israeli nationals.

The probe, which was conducted by investigators from the Torrance and Glendale police departments and the U.S. Customs Service, also lead to the seizure of 17 pounds of marijuana and $44,000 in cash, said Officer David Crespin of the Torrance Police Department.

The drug ring ``is responsible for 90 percent of the Ecstasy coming into the City of Torrance and other local cities,'' Crespin said.

if we would just legalize drugs...

i could not disagree with you more. if we do legalize drugs, then more people will use drugs, and even if the price drops, the total money spent on drugs will increase.

the fact is that several terrorist organizations control land that grows some of the best drugs in the world (e.g. opium) and their peasant labor is cheap, dirt cheap. we could not begin to compete in the united states with these creeps if we did legalize drugs, both on price and on quality. the extra money spent in the now legal drug trafficking will provide even more funds to the terrorists.

besides being morally incorrect, your argument is also not economically sound.
