National Park Service Ranger Killed in Shooting Near U.S.-Mexico Border

The Associated Press

TUCSON, Ariz. Aug. 9 — A National Park Service ranger was killed Friday in a shootout with suspected smugglers near the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said.

The ranger was responding, along with the U.S. Border Patrol, to a call for assistance from Mexican authorities who were chasing two men in a vehicle that crossed the border into the Organ Pipe National Monument.

Authorities were still investigating what happened, and it wasn't immediately clear why the men were being chased.

Dale Thompson, chief park ranger at the monument, said the shootout took place about 100 yards north of the border in a rugged stretch of desert known for both drug and people smuggling.

The ranger's identity wasn't released.

But we all know that isn't going to happen unless the voters wake up and fire all the panderers of the illegals.

And there's plenty of them throughout the country, in both parties.

Seems like many here woke up a little cranky this morning. A killer, pursued by the cops, crosses the border and kills a park ranger and that`s GWB`s fault? come on folks, time to get real

Bush doesn't need YOU. After we invade Iraq, his popularity numbers will be so high that he can p*** on real conservatives and still have plenty of votes to reelect him. He shovels more illegals in; he's happy, Fox is happy, big business has their slave labor so they're happy. EVERYBODY benefits! You just need to learn to speak Spanish. (sarcasm off)

Americans need to brush up on Mexican culture since it is becoming a very large part of the US, and much of that culture is about running and dealing drugs. The most popular Mexican music in the US is about drugs and murder of US police and other law enforcement. There is even a shrine in Sinaloa to San Juan Malverde, the patron saint of drug traffickers.

NARCOCORRIDO: A JOURNEY INTO THE MUSIC OF DRUGS, GUNS, AND GUERRILLAS

by Elijah Wald HarpersCollins Rayo November 2001

by Barbara Flaska PopMatters Associate Music Editor

The thuka-thuka-thuka of a low-flying helicopter and the sudden wail of a police siren. My heart skips a beat and the adrenaline is already dripping out my pores. This is going to be exciting! The siren screams up closer, almost catching up, and suddenly there are a few surprising loud blasts from a tuba that begins the exchange. The pedal hits the metal as Jenni Rivera begins singing and floorboards the supercharged "La Chacalosa". Corrido! This is corrido! Trumpets play en doble, clarinets carry signature lines, and lots of cymbals crash for emphasis: "Me buscan por chacalosa, soy hija de un traficante / Conozco bien las movidas, me creí entre la mafia grande / De la mejor mercancía, me enseñó a vender mi padre".

¿Que? ("I am wanted for being chacalosa, I am a trafficker's daughter / I know all the moves, I grew up around the top mafia / My father taught me how to sell the best merchandise".) This is corrido, but the lyrical content has been updated. And so began my introduction to a new form of corrido known as narcocorrido, where Mexican polka meets gangsta lyrics and huge sales result. When it comes to sales and popularity, the Recording Industry Association of America tallied for the year 2000 that more than half of Latin music sales in the U.S. are for Mexican Regional styles. (Please, read that last sentence again and let it sink in.)

Mexican Regional styles sell almost four times as many records as all the "tropical" styles (salsa, merengue, cumbia) put together. Perhaps not all of those records sold are corridos. But drugs and people singing about them are big business, and you've probably already read a review of Elijah Wald's book Narcocorrido: A Journey into the Music of Drugs, Guns, and Guerrillas in the Wall Street Journal. The book is available in both English and Spanish editions.

Actually, the opposite is true...he has done something--he has encouraged the passage of 245(i) Amnesty for Illegals. Since it failed earlier, he will re-encourage it shortly after the election. After all, he promised Vincente that he'd do it--and he meets with Vincente in a few days. He's gotta play nice to Vincente; Mexico needs all those millions of dollars illegals are sending back to Mexico; and we get to care for their medical needs, and educational needs, and social service needs.

Don't you hate seeing the President of the greatest nation on earth be the bitch for Vicente Fox? I mean does Fox have something on this guy?

We ARE at war! We're being invaded by the millions and shot at on our own borders. What else is it but war.? No other country (including Mexico) would stand for it, but we do and are becoming a doormat to Mexico. It's sad that no one in Washington gives a damn.

Translation please, for the English Speaking Only community.

Not exact, but this catches the flavour and attitude; those whose Tex-Mex idiom is better are invited to offer corerections or a better version. The song really launched the superstar career of El Tigres del Norte and was followed by at least three sequel *answer songs* and two motion picture adaptations.

A real quick websearch didn't turn up a MP3 version, but I bet there's one or two to be had somewhere....

por su ordena!

***** ***** *****

They left San Ysidro coming from Tijuana
the rims of the car they brought filled with bad grass
They were Emilio Varela and Camelia the Tejana. [Texas girl]

They came through San Clemente and stopped for immigration
who requested their documents and said to them
Where are you from

They said San Antonio, a place with a woman's heart.

So a woman loves a man, and can give life
but it is necessary to take good care of her
If she should feel hurt

betrayal and the contraband life don't mix.

At Los Angeles they arrived, and went to Hollywood
changed the four rims in a dark alley
there they gave the grass, and there also
they got what was coming to them:

Emilio says to Camellia, today it's goodbye
to the part of this life that touches you, It's to San Francisco, with the owner of my life.

They sound was seven shots,
Camellia, Emilio killed
the police only found a thrown pistol
nothing was ever heard again of the money and Camellia,.

One-word answers are always suspect as oversimplifications, but here's one for you....

You are right on all points IMHO. As far as private property, I think that all land within one or two miles of the border should come under special regualtions permitting BP access. It would be insane to permit someone controlled by a Mexican cartel to buy land on the border as a launching pad without govt access.

The local Phoenix news yesterday reported that the Ranger may have been hit by rounds fired by authorities on the Mexican side of the border. When the bad guys dismounted the Customs agents and the Ranger began a foot chase...then there was a "barrage of gun fire" and the Ranger was hit. I don't know if this was covered anywhere else but the breaking story yesterday mentioned it.

Thus it wasn't an act of war. Simple really.

And 9-11 was just an isolated criminal act, because they didn't wear uniforms and fly a flag as they flew into the WTC.

Some people are so stupid it's not worth trying to communicate with them. I put you squarely in that category.

The best way to stop a rifle bullet is to kill the shooter.

Amen.

The deal is that letting all these terrible things happen is suppose to boost G.W. Bush in the 2004 election with Hispanic voters. But the deal makes no sense, does it?

They seem to be the majority don't they?

In the last 245(i) vote in the House, every congressman in NY, both parties voted for it. The whole northeastern Republican establishment is out of touch with reality on immigration because this area is not as affected in any serious way with the problem yet. If we don't do something about it now as a country, NY, Vermont, New Hampshire and the rest of them will be just like California eventually. Then there will be no areas left for Americans to escape to.
