HTML Sandbox is locked - Requesting HTML
Information, Links, etc. for FReeper Newbies

No.....this is not a request for help for myself, lol ! This is for folks that are new to FreeRepublic.com that need a place to practice their HTML before posting on the regular threads. When I see a new FReeper that posts an article and the first reply is "Paragraphs are our friends" (or the likes), I will send them links to the NEWCOMERS: Welcome Center and Information thread and the HTML Bootcamp (Cyber patriot training) thread. This way, they may become oriented to FreeRepublic and their posts will go up and be better received by the FReeper audience.

Perhaps in all the recent changes FreeRepublic has undergone, I missed something? When I search for the "Sandbox" I find quite a few of them, but they are all "locked read-only". I'm trying to find out if there is an active "Sandbox" for folks to practice their HTML skills. If there is not one now, can someone post one? Perhaps there is a "Sandbox" posted now under a different name, or a place outside of FreeRepublic that one can practice their HTML posting skills. Bottom line, I think you see I'm looking for a place that I can direct new folks to so they can practice HTML.

Last, if you have any links to HTML instruction, etc., or anything that might be helpful to FReeper newbies (or helpful to anyone for that matter), please post them here.

Thank you for the Microsoft Web Accessories link!

That reminds me, for those with Internet Explorer 5.5, here are some very helpful downloads, with descriptions:

Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 1 and Internet Tools

Download Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 1 and Internet Tools. This version of Internet Explorer includes improved support for DHTML and CSS, which gives Web architects greater control over browser appearance and behavior. Enjoy the ability to preview Web pages exactly as they will appear when printed. Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1) makes it easier than ever to connect to the Internet and find the information you need. With Internet Explorer 5.5 SP1, you can use Connection Manager as your default dialer when Dial-Up Networking is already installed.

Microsoft Web Developer Accessories

These two tools help the Web developer or those who are just curious about how pages are coded. The DOM tree tool lets you view all the Document Object Model properties in tree form via right click or the tools menu. And for those who are tired of scrolling through hundreds of lines of HTML to find that one section of code that does what you want, search no more! Simply highlight the area of Web page that you want to see the source for, right click on it and select "View Partial Source." It's that simple! Not supported by Microsoft. Give it a try.

Alamo PC has an all-encompassing tutorial for HTML. I used this site when I was first learning HTML.

Thank you.

"...this thread has such good info, I think I might "bookmark" it to my homepage....now, how do I do dat? : ) TIA : )" Seriously, how does one "bookmark?" Thanks.

Sorry about that. On post #53, TxBec has that. It works on any thread you are
on, and it puts the bookmark on your FReeper profile page.

Here's her note again:

Wow, thanks! I didn't know this existed.

Isn't that something? I haven't tried it yet, but it's on or near the top of my list.

That's exactly what I was looking for/what I had in mind when I posted this
article.

AlamoGirl! After I discovered FR, (99), I spent my first month pouring over AG's material. Outstanding. I spent the next year begging Jim to allow me to join with a free mail addy. He finaly allowed me, and AlamoGirl is one of my favorite Freepers.

FYI, the accessories page does not include Windows XP as a supported OS for the extremely useful "View Partial Source" utility, but I installed it in XP on my system and it works fine.

So when I eventually upgrade to XP, I can still use the "View Partial Source?"
GREAT! Thanks!

This is the page I use to make my html skills for dummies workable. You can practice all you want, see the finish product, redo as needed. Instructions are off to the left side for html.

It will show links that you can click to test, show the pictures, what ever you need to do. I check my html all the time in it now, for Ebay, FR, anywhere html is needed. Then just copy and paste when your finished to post!

I think the best place for a new FReeper to practice their HTML skills is at the test site John has set up at ---->

Click "HERE" to go the the almost unused/viewed second site for F.R.

Click "HERE" to register over there to post there.

What a great idea to do this for us newbies. You do not know how much we appreciate it.

When winter rolls around I will have time to practice, an maybe I will even master how to have a feather pen that writes. lol

You're very welcomed. There's a lot of good stuff that folks have linked.

If it's going to be a while before you use/reference these resources, you might
want to "bookmark" this thread. That will put it on your FReeper profile page for
easy reference anytime. See post #59 or #53 if you're not sure how to do that.

Hmm? I see that happen from time to time, usually with the URL Address in article posts.

I notice that when I did a View Partial Source of your link, it's actually this:

< A href="“http://www.google.com”">Google< /A>

Notice the duplicate quotemarks?

Now when I take the dup quotes out, it makes this link:

Google

.........a good Google link!

When you make your link, check the detail before posting, and test the link. If
the link fails in the test, a little detail check should reveal the problem.
