NEVER FORGET

.."WE WERE SOLDIERS"..

...the new RANDALL WALLACE ..'Braveheart in 'Nam.. Motion Picture starring MEL GIBSON, SAM ELLIOTT, MADELEINE STOWE, GREG KINNEAR, CHRIS KLEIN, KERI RUSSELL, BARRY PEPPER about the 1st Major Battle of the Vietnam War in the -Valley of Death- that was the IA DRANG of November 1965...

...is out today on ..DVD/Video in Super-Surround Sound that highlights the unforgettably lush Soundtrack Musical Score of NICK GLENNIE-SMITH.

...A major new plus here is the new addition of -10- previously deleted scenes on both the DVD and Video with Commentary by "WE WERE SOLDIERS" Director/Screenwriter RANDALL WALLACE, who won an Academy Award for his 1st .."BRAVEHEART".. Motion Picture Screenplay starring ..MEL GIBSON..!

...In .."WE WERE SOLDIERS".. MEL GIBSON is then Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE who led his 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry (Of CUSTER fame) Skytroopers to victory, while surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese Communist Regulars, in the 7th Cav's 2nd Battle of the Little Big Horn to open the Vietnam War.

...This outstanding Motion Picture is based on the Classic Non-Fiction Bestselling Book ..'WE WERE SOLDIERS ONCE and YOUNG'.. Co-Authored by now Lt. Gen. HAL G. MOORE (Ret.) and War Correspondant JOE GALLOWAY who was there.

...It was my distinct honor to carry Radio and drive for Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE (MEL GIBSON) and his S/MAJ BASIL L. PLUMLEY (SAM ELLIOTT) right up to this Battle, where I witnessed all from the close-in Artillery Support Landing Zone Falcon that fired up a constant Wall of Fire around the surrounded Landing Zone of IA DRANG-1965 = THE Difference.

...After my carrying our Hero Dead and Wounded Young Soldiers fresh from Landing Zone X-Ray to helicopters going back to the rear at Pleiku Airstrip ...Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE wrote out his -Letters of Condolances- to their Hero Families waiting for them their Loved Ones to come home or not. As the IA DRANG-1965 S-1 Personnel Clerk ..I typed them up for mailing home ..some directly to Mrs. JULIE MOORE's for her hand delivery to wives.

...All this I will NEVER FORGET.

Did I just hear you as a caller to C-SPAN's Washington Journal? I was half listening to the program and then heard "Ia Drang" and "DVD"

I'm sorry but I hated this movie. It seemed like the 'touchy/feely' Hollywood garbage of Pearl Harbor all over again. The racial overtones, as in the "whites only" sign on the laundromat and one of the main characters trying to save the black soldier only to be killed himself, flashing back to the cab driver delivering notification of death telegrams and all the sobbing women detracted from the movie I had hoped it to be. I loved Braveheart and Patriot but this was just too much.

...Thank you very much for viewing .."WE WERE SOLDIERS".. and sharing your feelings with us about it.

...The "Just Too Much" you talk about in regard to this RANDALL WALLACE ..'Braveheart in 'Nam.. Motion Picture...

...was "Just That" to US as it was all REALLY happening.

...May I suggest your reading ..'WE WERE SOLDIERS ONCE and YOUNG'..by Lt. Gen. HAL G. MOORE (Ret.) and JOE GALLOWAY for more on how it REALLY was...?

Saw it yesterday and thought that apart from the actual reality of the combat scenes...the movie sucked. Vain and shallow...

The actual combat and its scope wasnt captured properly...it looked to a laymen as if Mel Gobson merely led a company into battle. The technology exists today to explain visually the scale & magnitude of actual engagements. The cinematrography of digitally created Hueys swooping towards the LZ was cheesy.

I was pleased that they properly displayed the absolute requirement for air support that was involved...

...overall I was let down.

The actual story required a better effort. Not at all comparable to Blackhawk down.

I was stationed south of Danang at Marble Mountain flying cobra gunships during the 'conflict' and consequently know a little about what went on over there. I was hoping for another typical Mel Gibson movie and was sorely disappointed. Blackhawk Down was a much better movie.

...The MEL GIBSON Freedom Trilogy of...

.."BRAVEHEART".. "THE PATRIOT".. and .."WE WERE SOLDIERS"..

...has always been far less about Special Effects and more about Human Hearts put under great pressure.

...With .."WE WERE SOLDIERS".. it reaches its Message peak in accurately putting you in the shoes of those who fought and died in the -Valley of Death- that was the IA DRANG of November 1965 or those who waited for us to come home or NOT.

...For Special Effects go see...

..'BLACKHAWK DOWN'.. or ..'2001: A Space Odyssey.'

...For Hearts in the process of being perfected it's...

.."WE WERE SOLDIERS."

Because, after all, isn't that why we are all put here on this Earth ...to learn how to Love and to be Loved in return...

...and to live out our lives that way so that we may be with the LOVE itself for all Eternity...?
