Fox News has announced that they'll show the sequence of the planes hitting the WTC once, then never again.

We should be showing everything that happened, all the shocking footage, especially the parts that were never shown in the first place.

Peacenicks should have to deal with the images of innocent people jumping to their deaths, and even the aftermath at ground level. This sort of whitwash is an outrage.

A mound of rubble and an empty hole look sort of surreal and sterile on television. People need to see the human toll this took, not just the damaged real estate.

Luckily, our local cable system picked up the BBC for a week or so around 9/11 - so I saw many of the photos that our media will not show now.

To me, the fact that the photos are being supressed for "racial, cultural" reasons tells me the entire "War on Terror" is a sham.

As someone that lives 1/2 mile north of what was the World Trade Center in NYC, I think Fox News is being very responsible. We all know what happened on 9/11/01 there is no need to see those planes slam into what was the World Trade Center over and over and over like we did during the first month after the atrocity.

A channel chosing what to and not to broadcast isn't censorship. The government TELLING the channel what to and not to broadcast is censorship.

Every news station makes a couple of these kinds of decisions every minute. They don't just go out in the world with cameras running and broadcast straight form the camera. They discuss, they edit, they pick angles, they decide somethings are just too much. Since there are 3 24/7 networks now you can chose the network who's decisions most closely fit those you would make. But don't confuse editorial control, something the guys that pay the bills have earned the right to do, with censorship. That word is getting WAY over used in the last few years and it's time to remember what it really means: government control. Unless the US government is telling Fox not to show this stuff, it's not censorship, it's editorial control.

Earlier this AM on Fox and Friends , Steve Doocy stated that on 9/11, Fox will be showing the planes hitting the buildings (WTC) at the exact time that the events occurred--that will be the only time that day that the very emotional shots will be shown. Nothing was said re: not showing the results of the dramatic impact, the rubble, the walking wounded, the devastated looks of fear.

For many people, viewing the horror of the initial impact seems to elicit the worst of memories and revulsion.

While I agree people must be reminded of the horror, the death, and destruction that occurred there is a point where showing the times of impact over and over again will turn people off. There is a fine line between remembering this horrific event and getting hit on the head with it, ad infinitum,to the point that it no longer serves as the reminder of what and why we, as a country, must pursue those responsible, individuals or countries, and get rid of all of them.

Maybe. I've got a friend that was interning at the hospital nearest WTC (sorry, name escapes me). I've heard some pretty gruesome accounts of Ground Zero. I've also heard and read accounts that tell me a lot of that debris flying through the air when the planes hit was peole parts. IMHO I can fully remember the horrors of the day and stay committed to the fight against terrorism WITHOUT barfing all over my TV. Others might not and are more than welcome to seek more gruesome coverage. It's an editorial decision, only the ratings will tell us for sure if it's good or bad.

That would be preaching to the choir, anyway, as it would for most people who read this forum. I know more than a few people who simply refuse to acknowledge the importance of what actually happened on 9/11, in one fashion or another. I don't know if more footage would have any impact, but it would probably do more than the syrupy tributes they mock.

It's all about ratings, and what they think most people will want to tune in to. I think that if they get enough feedback then they'll program accordingly. If I'm pissing into the wind, well, then at least I got something off of my chest :)

I can't say that I really blame people for living in denial on this, it took me a month to finally stop thinking "this can't be real". I think those in denial will avoid the footage anyway, given the coverage I've heard about I think that means they won't be watching any TV at all that week (could be a good thing), but they'll find a way.

I'm all for getting stuff off your chest. I won't be writing since I think I'd make a very similar decision, but I ain't gonna CENSOR you ;-) write away.

I have tried, with no success, to find a copy of some kind (VCR tape, video CD, computer video file) of Fox's news feed that morning. I don't mean the "as it happened" montage that they put together a week or so after the 9/11, but an un-cut tape of the actual coverage for the first two or three hours. Hell, I'd even settle for MSNBC or even (gulp) CNN, if I could get the whole thing un-cut. I want to get this before the networks pull any and all fottage of the attack, especially since some networks have already decided not to play that footage anymore.

I did find a site that had parts of the live feeds from ABC and BBC, but they are streaming-only, and even with a cable modem, I have never been able to view more than a minute or two before the connection gets too choppy.

I sent an email to Fox several months ago asking about my request, but they never replied to any of my emails.

I have been quite upset with the sanitizing of the 9-11 tragedy. People need to see, to be reminded what was done. Graphic, totally gory footage is not necessary, but it is SO important that people are reminded of the pain this caused.

So many issues, like abortion, crimes, etc, survive merely because the powers that be don't want to offend people's sensabilities. If the pain wasn't sanitized away people would be outraged on so many more things. I am reminded of a line Merlin said in the movie Excalibur, "For it is the doom of men that they forget."

By the way, CNNFN had an excellent, unsanitized version "America Remembers" this week. The 2nd half is being broadcast this weekend. I hope it is as good as the first.

Excellent response. The US is mired in such a godawful anger-suppression mindset that the most heinous of crimes (I'm thinking the Wichita murders here) go unremarked outside their immediate localities, just to protect the sensibilities of people who might be outraged otherwise. It is the Big Lie of the century. The effect is to neuter the response to decaying civilization.

The repeated airings are desensitizing many of the viewers. The tragic event is becoming less tragic in their minds as a result. I think Fox is doing the right thing because of this.

I also think that there are certain broadcasters and viewers who get the same charge out of this video that people get there's a wreck at a NASCAR event. I, for one, don't want any more of this.
