Rush briefly touched on this, but I thought that as a SUV owner and so sick of this, I could not resist adding my comments.

"Police and child-safety advocates said today that there has been an increase in such fatalities involving large vehicles, such as trucks, vans and SUVs."

Duh. There is also an increase in the number of Americans driving SUV's and pickup trucks. If we were all forced to drive more Yugos as Commiefornia desires, then there would be a statistical increase in the number of fatalities from Yugos also.

"On Aug. 20, 2-year-old Eduardo Velasco was struck and killed after he darted behind a Ford Thunderbird driven by a neighbor at a Union City apartment complex."

Just a note to Henry K. Lee:
A Ford Thunderbird is not a SUV or a pickup truck. You might want to actually research a story before writing it. But then again that would go against the liberal journalism edict of writing with your feeeeeeeeeeeelings.

""People have these SUVs that are higher from the ground -- it's like driving a school bus," said San Jose police Sgt. Steve Dixon."

Great. Even the San Jose P.D. hires tree huggers. I've been on school buses (it's been a few years) and my Dodge doesn't even come close to as high (unless I juice up the gas in my shocks). Another moronic statement.

Nothing else needs to be said. The media in Commiefornia continues their assault on American freedom. The residents of that state deserve all the hell the rest of us (except for the Soviet Republics in the Northeast U.S.) dump on them daily.

This just goes to point out that all cars, trucks etc. are lethal weapons and should be driven with care.I guess SUV's might be a bit harder to see out from and behind oneself, but all vehicles have the ability to run someone over.

Can we ban stupid people who don't pay attention in traffic and run over people on motorcycles? I'll sign up for that.
How about a ban on parents who don't watch their little children long enough for them to get run over by cars?

I sent a letter to the writer:

Are you people out there idiots?

As many as 70 percent of those cases involved large vehicles, and in half of all cases, the drivers are parents or relatives of the victims, according to Fennell.

So? Why not ban all vehicles, solve the problem right away. No more giant UPS trucks or big ice cream trucks in the hood to hurt anybody. When we will stop blaming inanimate objects for our problems and start looking at the idiots behind those objects.

Murder is already illegal, if people use guns, cars, knives, etc to do it should we keep taking away things they can use until we are all left with nothing??? I am not saying we go the other way and give everyone nuclear weapons and tanks for home defense but at what point DO people draw the line? It keeps moving and moving. Kids die in bathtubs, people are hurt all the time with kitchen knives, and I would venture a guess that pornography has led to more crimes and killings then SUV's or guns ever will. And BEER or alcohol in general, we better ban that too - no more drinking or smoking in bars. A caged bird is safe, but not free (Walter Williams I believe).

I thank god I moved from that hell hole of a state years ago.

I occasionally drive a Ford 'Splorer', 1997 variety. My wife normally uses it because it has high clearance and good visibility. We also use it for hauling since my 3/4 ton Pick-'em-up has a 5th wheel hitch (for my 22 foot portable motel) and isn't much good for hauling big items. Of course, I normally drive my Nissan Maxima because it gets me good mileage (24-26) and my 36,000 miles per year gets expensive.

That all said. I cannot understand how my wife does it. That darn 'Splorer just gets a mind of its own and wants to swerve into crowds of kids. Ya know? Wow.

How DOES she do it?

Here's a great quote from that scumbag Cindy Adams. It is from her column in yesterday's New York Post. (She is referring here to the case of Lizzie Grubman, a spoiled whacko heiress who ran over a bunch of people last year at a posh nightclub.):

"Closure? What closure? There'll never be closure for me," said Lizzie, speaking candidly about her life since the SUV she was driving backed into a clutch of people at Southampton's Conscience Point nightclub last year.

LOFL!!!
Them SUVs are liable at any time to go running people over. Tough break for Lizzie that, by sheer coincidence, she happened to be driving the SUV at the time. Usually them miserable SUVs wait until there's nobody in them before they go off and do things like this.

Slave Like Conditions Used to Make the Steel for Sports Utility Vehicles

SUVs are produced in part by people working under near slavery conditions. The charcoal people, who are illiterate and receive no pension or other benefits from the Brazilian government, produce charcoal from burned trees, which is combined with iron ore to produce iron. This Brazilian pig iron is used to produce the super strong frames of SUVs.

There are an estimated 60,000 charcoal people. They usually begin working at their trade at the age of 7 or 8, helping their parents, and remain in this trade until their death. Their pay is terrible, as are the conditions under which they work.

Here is an example of a very fine line between slavery and freedom in this, the 21st century - to produce your vehicle. SUV production greatly contributes to the destruction of the Brazilian rain forest. Two tractors with a chain stretched between them literally tear the trees from the ground. These trees then undergo a controlled burn process in a kiln by the charcoal people.

Who, with the exception of a very few drivers, can honestly justify the need to drive such a vehicle?

I think this points to something that I have noticed, and that is that many SUV drivers drive as if their vehicles were cars. THEY CLEARLY ARE NOT!

Anyone who drives one needs to be aware of some of the inherent limitations, like visibility of things that are low and close to the vehicle. They handle lousy, and their brakes are marginal at best. That, and they tend to roll over because of their high center of gravity.

I say more power to SUV buyers, they have single handedly brought back the American Auto industry, but I wish more of them would learn to drive their vehicles better. (Heck, I wish more drivers would learn to drive their cars too!)

Best advice I heard was to back into your driveway with SUVs.....

When you pull out you will have real visibility and no guesswork. I park my own car that way. Been doing so for years.

In all of the anti-SUV articles, there's no driver in the car when disaster strikes. Do SUV's have a mind all of their own? It looks that way --- to liberals, who want them banned of course - for the children!
