What a shame, several generations of cowards...

Once noble Britannia has completely forgotten itself, perhaps we shoul;d send a "white feather" to the entire nation...

I think the thing that burns my britches the most is that people like this UK fellow truly dont remember what we did for them. I suppose it must rankle to think that someone else had to come along and drag you out of your own mess but the least a person could do is get their facts straight. Hell I did not even mention the lease and lend program we had going on over here long before we even entered the war. British war equipment being manufactured here in America because their factories were being bombed in England. Or all of the money we spent rebuilding their countries after the war...money they NEVER repaid. All of the AMERICAN merchant marines who died trying to run goods past the blockades...and those blockades this fellow talks about in Russia...just who was it does he think that ran those blockades to get them guns and food stuffs and other war products. America through its nonviolent involvment kept our "allies" alive until we actually entered the war. His assertion that we did not get involved until 1943 is utter rot. We had volunteer merchant marines running goods, volunteer pilots flying planes and lord knows how many others. The Brits would never have succeded in defeating the Germans in Africa without the Americans and despite his horrible grasp of history American soldiers were fighting in Africa as early as 1941. The main American invasion was until operation Torch in 1942 but there were plenty of advance elements (my grandfather among them who fought across Africa and sicily and then up through Italy before finally being sent home).

My ultimate complaint isnt even so much that they dont express gratitude...but that they express so openly such a LACK of gratitude. I dont expect them fifty years on to say "Oh thanks mate for saving our buts against the nazi's." But at least they they could have the decency to get the facts straight. And this is where it really rankles. America might not have physically entered the war until 1941 but we never told the British to stop fighting the germans and just lie down and take it. We never told the French to just grin and bear it. We offered them financial, military, and moral support throughout it all and when the time came we went and fought...and we won. And now when America is in need and has an enemy out to destroy them what do they say. "It isnt our problem" "Why dont you just calm down" "Oh there goes those Americans causing trouble again" "Whats in it for us" and if that wasnt enough I have to listen to "We didnt really need your help in WWII so we dont really have any obligation to help you now"

You give yourself away..."worse than Bush". You are talking to the wrong crowd. And your analogy is horrible. Typical of modern western liberals you get everything mixed up...The Facist regimes of Italy and Germany were not Cowboy-Capilatists. They were were Socialist totalitarians. Your kind of people really. No wonder we keep having to save your continent from itself. Look at the kind of systems you people gravitate towards. If you cant even get your own history straight what possible chance do you have of avoiding a repetition.

Pry...

You mention North Africa.... It was General Freyberg, his New Zealanders and the Aussies that saved the Brits butts in Africa. Volunteers all.

When FDR wanted to blockade Japan, to force them out of China and Manchuria, the Brits cowered in their bunkers and sent a letter of protest to the Japanese. For that they paid a very heavy price in Southeast Asia and the fall of their Empire.

Oh I dont diminish the Zealanders and the Aussie's contribution they were practically the only reason that the Brits were able to hang around down their in the first place. But the capability to outmanuver, outfight and ultimately defeat the Germans did not happen until the Americans invaded in 1942. After the AFrica Campaign (something that Monty is given historical credit for winning) It was Patton that had the Germans terrified...what does that tell you about who had them running.(Yes I know his effectivness in Sicily helped build his reputation)

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said it was important to keep the pressure on Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Mr Downer said Australia had no plans to join the US if it decided on an attack on Iraq but the government would consider such action if the US requested Australian involvement.

"If the United States does decide in the end, and perhaps the international community decides in the end, there is unfortunately no alternative, any involvement by Australia would be subject to a request from the United States for Australia to participate," he said.

I along with the British strongly disagree that Britain would be under German control now had America not intervened.

Supplying arms and equipment don't count eh?

I was being a little more global in my definition of allies that are with us. I have yet to hear the Aussies say that they don't think we should attack or that we should get un approval first.

This is nothing new. We have been alone for quite some time now. But there is nothing to fear - the U.N. is nothing but a bunch of eunuch beureaucrats and have no power that we don't give them. The Euro sissies are afraid of their own shadow - so nothing to fear from them. So, the ony threats are from China and the islamic radicals. China is probably a future threat, and islam is the immediate threat. So, let's ignore the UN and Eureo eunuchs and destroy Mecca and be done with the immediate threat. What are they going to do to us - take their toys and go home?

With the exception of nuking Mecca that is pretty much what I was advocating. I dont think we should be concerned with Europe or its opinions. There are in fact totally irrelevent to the equation. I just get tired of hearing people try to explain to me why I should care what a bunch of whiney crybabies who despise us think about us.

Thanks for the post. It gave me a smile.
