The conservative group Free Republic is planning a smaller counter-demonstration to oppose the anti-globalization protesters.

Why?

Don't tell me that this website supports Globalism?

You apparently don't understand what globalization is. It's NONE of those things you mentioned.

Is this what the FR is all about? Explain this to me please. Gladly.

You have assumed that there are two alternatives, and if one is not against the globalization then he is for it. The anti-globalization protestors are usually misfits that could not find another cause. Opposing THEM does not imply acceptance of all forms of globalization.

Next, the original meaning of the term implied fluidity, ease in the movement of people, thoughts, capital. Most people who accept capitalism and free markets celebrate such ease. It is not our reposnsibility for the hijacking of the word: global taxes is socialism, not globalization, for instance.

Earlier Tuesday on WTOP, an all-news radio station in Washington, Police Chief Charles Ramsey said it's not his department's job to protect ''a bunch of bankers from around the world.''

It sure as hell is.

Next thing, you will be expecting him to find Chandra Levy's killer or something.

Boy, you expect the world!

I oppose globalization for the exact opposite reasons that the anarchist whackos do. I oppose the WTO and the IMF. Why the heck is Free Republic being mentioned in an AP article for planning a "counter demonstration" of the WTO/IMF protestors? Why is the good name of Free Republic being used to promote organizations and policies which are destructive of our national sovereignty and freedom? Who's bad idea is this "counter protest"?

Really? Well if the IMF and the WTO and any other similar entities are involved it is. The WTO is a direct affront to our national sovereignty and our constitutional, representative form of government.

So, please candycoat the WTO/IMF form of "globalization" so we can all laugh at you.

"It's NONE of those things you mentioned."

Then I'm really confused because I thought those were a number of issues surrounding supporting globalization.

And since that's what I've understood globalization to be much about, I don't know why Freepers would want to appear to be on the opposite side. Let the socialist whiners do our work for us and oppose the world economic takeover by central banks.

''They're people in search of something to complain about,'' said Free Republic organizer Kristinn Taylor.

ExACTly. As one uniformed Secret Service agent said last 9/29, "Be nice to these guys, their parents didn't pay them enough attention when they were young."

FreedomFriend:

I think if globalization interferred with self-defense or core national objectives, it might be bad. It's not a per se good or bad thing.

But these unwashed, socialist protestors vowing to destroy property ARE a bad thing. (Also, on a little personal note, I live in DC and they litter like crazy; so much for being "green.")
