Bill Gertz & El Rushbo Talk "Breakdown"
September 5, 2002

At the top of Hour Two, I welcomed Bill Gertz of the Washington Times to the EIB Network. Gertz has more sources than anyone, to the point where other papers and the CIA have complained about what he knows. He's written a blood-boiling book called
Breakdown: How America's Intelligence Failures Led to September 11th.

You must buy and read this book, folks.I've been reading this, as I've been telling you, and it has inspired emotions inside me ranging from anger to suspicion. Gertz clearly states that the intelligence agencies are staffed by plenty of decent, hard-working people, but some of the things they have overlooked make you wonder.

Micah Morrison's huge piece in Thursday's Wall Street Journal covers a lot of the ground Gertz first strode over on the Iraq-Oklahoma City connection. Morrison has written a long piece based on a couple of books, the flash point of which is that Iraq was involved in that bombing. There's evidence that the government just stopped with McVeigh, rather than dig into whether a foreign government was involved. Check out these quotes from Mr. Gertz on Thursday's show:

"Beginning in the early 90s, bin Laden announced that he was going to have his followers kill Americans, both civilian and military, and then they began doing that, through a series of escalating attacks which culminated in September 11th."

"Under the Clinton administration the CIA was saddled with what had become known as the Deutch rules...a politically correct approach to espionage where they told the operations officers, the spies in the field, 'You will not recruit agents who have an unsavory background, who may have violated someone's human rights.'"

Bill Gertz "Something so simple as requiring that the intelligence communities standardize the names so that the name Osama bin Laden is spelled with an O instead of a U throughout the community was resisted, and people on Capitol Hill, in the House took that provision out."

"I got the sense from my research that as long as Al-Qaeda and Osama were blowing up things overseas, that [the Clinton administration] were going to accept that as the cost of doing business."

"The thinking that (bin Laden) is alive is based on the notion that if he had been killed, they would pick up this so-called chatter among his followers."

Folks, these wrong-headed liberals like the Clintonistas and Senator Frank Church are gone, but they left their mark on our intelligence community by kicking out the agents and replacing them with bureaucrats. We've adopted the liberal mind-set that the U.S. is just too big, and it's unfair, so we should cut the world some slack – and it has led us to getting our ass kicked by people whose intent is to rid the world of us completely.

Listen to Rush...
(...interview the author of "Breakdown: How America's Intelligence Failures Led to 9/11)
(...continue the interview with Bill Gertz, and get angry about our failures)
(...wrap up the Gertz talk with a hearty endorsement of "Breakdown")
(...give the final word on how bureaucrats have left us exposed to attack)

Pick Up A Copy of Bill Gertz's Book...

The current situation within the FBI is more like a cancer.

Those who aren't dirty are competing with the Keystone Kops in intelligence and style.

Bureaucratic bloat and misplaced arrogance are real winners, as we see with the Hatfill debacle...

I thought that it was more support for the administration's plan to create a separate Department of Homeland Security and borrow assets. It's impossible politically to reorganize the intelligence services or to whip them out and start over. What's left is to compartmentalize them and go around them.

limbaugs schtick has worn thin with me. he is merely a pary hack. he will bitch and moan that the rnc wont fight for what they are SUPPOSED to stand for..calling them spineless.

but then he keeps shilling for them, as they give away our freedoms and income to the statist machine.

now, after it is too late, limbaugh thinks there may be something afoot (security wise) after being hit in the face with all kinds of evidence for a hell of a long time.

he amounts to nothing more than a useful idiot.

he is a second hander of esteem in the nth degree. his constant name dropping is apparently designed to improve his esteem...much like a society belle from the upper east side.

never was impressed by that crap. I like real people, who are confident enough to not have to point out where they were or who they were with in order to feel good about themselves. I think half the time he is trying to impress himself as much as anyone else.

bill klinton knows and meets lots of self important people too. bfd.

Jeez, I thought I was the only person who thought like that. I couldn't have said it better myself. I gave up on that wind-bag about a year ago. He must get paid quite a bit by the 'pubs to blather on and on in what amounts to a Republican add posing as a radio show.

Limbaugh and Hannity had to get their arms twited to state onthe radio that Bush would go after the crimes of the Clinton Administration....I'm still waiting.

Limbaugh may be the best representative of the Republican Party out there, and he is occasionally funny, but he is nothing more than a partyhack. While I am glad Gertz' book is out there, and Limbaugh is promoting it (Menaing it will sell millions), Limbaugh is no longer a man of the little people, and hasn't been since he slept in the white house.

Wait a minute. Back in the 'honeymoon days' following 9/11, when NO ONE in the media would criticise Mr. Bush, Rush was constantly criticising the Bush administration for the Education Bill, the Campaign Finance Reform Bill, the Farm Bill, and for ignoring the Constitutional Rights of US citizens. He hasn't stopped. Now the Democrats are back to attacking Bush for anything and everything. Amidst the din of mindless mud-slinging it might sound as though Rush is shilling for the GOP.

There is more original thought on Rush's show than anywhere in the media, either printed or broadcast. The man ad-libs for three hours a day and is still the most prepared broadcaster around.

Yes, Euros and leftist comparing terrorist deaths to highway traffic deaths. Little those fckers ask the victims their point of views, little do they realize they use those acts as forced proselytism!!! I mean why is it so bad when we wire tap dems in the Nixon admin, but these people can blow us up in the name of allah!

Liberals are evil and they need a taste of their own medicine. Hence I propose, if terror is ok in the US, the setting up of militias targeting dems. If we cannot attack Iraq, then they cannot attack us. Fair enough, I accept that, after all, more dems die in traffic accidents every year, RIGHT???

Jesus, effing christ, you are so on the money.

With the FBI and CIA slandering a serious national security

I have no clue what your post has to do with the interview with Gertz. He has written an expose' of what led to the breakdown of our intelligence that helped to allow 911. It has nothing to do with Rush, other than that he interviewed him, and I am grateful that I was able to hear it.
President Bush is doing all he can to protect our lives, which is exactly what he should be doing. I haven't lost one freedom that I have noticed since 911. Those were lost way before he came into office.

I am equally perplexed as to the meaning of your statement about Clinton knowing a lot of important people. Did you read the thread, or did you just see Rush's name and go off?

You cannot possibly really believe the RNC pays Rush. I do however, agree wholeheartedly with your screenname.

I am a conservative. My only problem with Bush-Rush is the fact they are centrists.
