Jim McDermott and David Bonior have "MISLED" America about their Vietnam service.

Congressmen Jim McDermott and David Bonior have "MISLED" the American people about their Vietnam service.

During their Baghdad press conference, both McDermott and Bonior touted their Vietnam combat service, while calling President Bush a liar and praising Sadam Hussein's openness and cooperation.

Upon returning to the U.S., the two congressmen held a press conference and again highlighted their Vietnam combat service, as an obvious measure to boost their qualifications to remark on the horrors of war.

Following the news conference, McDermott appeared on MSNBC and once again clearly established at the onset of the interview that he had served in Vietnam.

And most recently, Major Garrett of Fox News reported that he had just talked with Bonoir and McDermott, and noted that both of them had "fought in the Vietnam War"

But easily available evidence indicates neither of them ever left the safety of the CONUS.

According to Congress Merge Online, McDermott's military experience is shown as:

Professional Experience (including Military):
Long Beach Naval Station, US Navy Medical Corps,1968-70
Private Practitioner, 1970-87

According to the Detroit Free Press (May 18, 2002), Bonoir's military experience is:
"...He enlisted in the Air Force after receiving his draft notice because enlisting meant he had more control over where he might be stationed; getting drafted most likely would mean being sent to Vietnam. He served in California in 1968-72 and earned his master's degree at the same time."

Why the press blindly buys off on what these two traitors say is incredible.

Just a couple of the standard journalism questions would show these two as the liars and traitors they really are:

When were you in Vietnam?

What campaign/service ribbons were you awarded?

Why are you lying about Vietnam combat service, when both of you spent your military time in the State of California ?

Just maybe someone from the press will see this and take the both of them to task.

But for Baghdad Jim to infer that he served in Vietnam like some hardcore boonie rat when the closest he ever came to combat was listening to vets recount their nightmares is beyond the pale.

Did he do this or hand out contraceptives and penicillin?

Interesting. Reminded of that "Who Want to Marry a Millionaire" chick who said she was a Gulf War Veteran... As it happens, in the service, she had never left the States.

I guess this is the inevitable result of naming wars after geographical locations. Everyone assumes a Vietnam vet served in-country (or at least offshore). On the hand, if your dad was a World War II vet, few ask if he served in Normandy or in New Jersey.

As the Romans said, they also serve those who sit and wait.

I enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1970-74. I was fortunate enough to have been stationed stateside, at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS, and Eglin AFB, in Florida. I would never think of dishonoring the sacrifices of other military men who fought in Viet Nam by calling myself a Viet Nam vet. While technically, like those two cowards in Baghdad, I am a Viet Nam era vet, it is self-serving to refer to oneself as that, and I never do.

Neither Bonior nor McDermott's official bios mention Viet Nam service.

Bonior: "Following graduation, Bonior joined the Air Force and was stationed in California. There he worked as a cook, slinging hash by day and attending night classes at Chapman University, where he earned a Masters Degree in History in 1972. "

McDermott: "After completing his medical residency and military service, he made his first run for public office in 1970.."

Whoa, take it easy on these caring individuals. I served during Viet Nam in the USAF and was attacked by a) a homosexual man in a bar b)a sand shark c)a bosuns' mate at a Navy club who kicked my butt royally, d)a marine at the NCBC in Gulfport, Ms e)a pelican that had a fishhook caught in his/her mouth (I couldn't discern the sex and did not give a damn either) f) a military patrol dog named "Hitler" g)a porpoise at the Gulfarium in Gulfport while I was trying to help treat its skin disease h)and numerous many other little warm and cold blooded animals, including an aligator. I was in combat every day with some furry little creature. I was a Viet Nam Era veteran.....nothing more, nothing less.

Seriously, at night we would have DC-9 Nightengales fly into Keesler and we would unload the combat veterans that were wounded in Viet Nam and were being sent to the military hospital closest to their homes. These guys had been treated at other hospitals until they were stable enough to get to a hospital close where loved ones could be with them more often. These were the veterans, the ones that deserved respect and honor for their sacrifices. There is no way my duty in CONUS could be considered equal to what they had gone through and accomplished.

More important than whether or not they served in the Viet Nam, is what they are receiving from Saddam now to deny all the classified briefings they have had, all the intelligence they have been given over their years of involvement in the Congress, to support Saddam and advise that Bush would mislead his people.

We realize that democrats love corruption to get what they want. Why would these two be any different that others in their party - Clinton, McAuliffe, Torricelli, Condit, Daschle, Gore?

It is just a question of what was offered by Saddam to them and Scott Ritter.

More dirty, rotten, maggot ridden, liberal, lying, stupid, traitorous, SOB's using VietNam vets as their doormat. Of course, we can't expect the press to print the truth, only DemocDATic press releases.

Isn't there a public source to verify service records. I know that my husband used to verify service records of people he hired. He always made sure not to hire anyone with a less than honorable discharge.

This is all I've been able to find.

from Bonior's official biography, "
"Following graduation, Bonior joined the Air Force and was stationed in California. There he worked as a cook, slinging hash by day and attending night classes at Chapman University, where he earned a Masters Degree in History in 1972. "

From McDermott's official biography:
"After completing his medical residency and military service, he made his first run for public office in 1970.."

Is it possible they were both so against the war, they were embarrassed, until now, to disclose on their official biographies, that they had served in Viet Nam?

That seems unlikely, even for socialist sympathizers....even Gore hyped his Viet Nam service, and Gov Kerrey of MA does it all the time.

I'm not losing my mind, am I? I heard them both say they served in Viet Nam.......didn't I?
