Strongly hoping the Cards can eliminate the Braves if they eliminate SF. The thought of Ted Turner hoisting the trophy is not something I want to contemplate.

Thanks. As I said I haven't followed baseball in a lonnng time, but I think I would have noticed if the Angels ever popped up on the radar... in October! How embarrassing for the Yankees, lol.

Congratulations.

If my Braves make it I will root for them, of course, but the Cardinals are a class act and an inspiring team.

The people of Atlanta have a soft spot for the St. Louis club seeing as the old Atlanta Crackers were once their Triple A farm club (Tim McCarver was a Cracker) and that Skip Carey paints such loving memories of his dad, Jack Buck, Stan the Man and the Gashouse gang on the radio.

Plus the whole dadblamed South loved Ole Diz!

I agree with you.

People on this thread who say they hate the Yankees, haven't said who their team is. I doubt its the Angels.

I congratulate the Angels. They out played the Yanks all around and deserved to win.

I knew there was something not right this year. It was the combination of losing colorful baseball personalities in O'Neil, Brosius and Martinez and replacing them with low key guys like Mondesi, Ventura and Giambi. Good players for sure, but never known as team leaders. Rondell White was a bust and Jeff Weaver has a long way to go before he's taken seriously. The Yanks of 1996-2001 are gone and it will take a while before these current crop of Yankees, show if they have what it takes to win in the post season.

Next year should be real interesting.

The Braves were there BEFORE Ted Turner, and they will be there AFTER Ted Turner.

(Which may be soon, seeing as the team is now owned by the money-hemorrhaging AOL Time Warner who have floated the idea of selling the team for quick cash)

Bummer.

Go Oakland!

If the Yankees don't win, I want the strongest AL team to go to the Series. Anything to get the trophy back from that "other" league.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Beat TAMU ags 48-47 in Overtime at A&M's Kyle Field!

Wow! That's the first time A&M has been beaten at home since...well, since a couple of weeks ago when they ran up a big three points vs. Virginia Tech.

Caltech's going to beat 'em next.

I'll return to a neutral stance regarding the Braves when Ted no longer turns up for a victory ceremony.

Well, I'd better wait to brag, (though they did beat Oakland today 11-2), but they've got to beat them one more time before I get to jump up and down too much LOL

Arizona out too.

No matter how the Twins end up doing, it will be nice to see some new faces in the WS this year.

In all candor, I was not following them, and I didn't go to a single game.

Why not?

Cablevision decided (in cahoots with The Yanks) not to broadcast any games, and I don't watch enough TV to warrant the purchase of a satellite system.

I'm still in shock. It seemed like a better team this year -- last year, I was upset that they lost in the last inning of the last game of the World Series, but the Yanks had basically gotten there on a wing and a prayer as it was. This year seemed like a more solid team, but I never saw them play as sloppily this year as they did against the Angels. The thought crossed my mind more than once while watching today's debacle that they were throwing the game -- that's how badly they were playing. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but they just didn't seem to have it this postseason.

The decible level in the Metrodome yesterday/today got up to 107. The announcers compared it to standing on a runway next to a 747 taking off.

The 10th player ;)

I also have nothing against the team and its players. Being a Blue Jay fan up here I have a soft spot for Bobby Cox. I suffered through the first 5 years of the Blue Jays existence. The summer of 82 will always be special to me since the first glimmer of hope shone out that year when Bobby Cox took over as manager. It took another 10 years to reach the mountain top but that moment in 82 when we fans realized the team was no longer a joke was wonderful. This has been another dismal year for the Blue Jays but we have some good young players and hope has returned once again. Looking forward to next year.

"Love to see a Twins Cardinals series."

So would I. And I hope it ends the same way it did in '87 ;)

I doubt they were throwing the game.

I think they played like a team, who simply wasn't hungey enough, to want to win. After all, Mondesi said this past week, he will be retiring after making $13 million in 2003. That doesn't sound like something Paul O'Neil would say. Now does it?

Just my opinion, but Jeff Weaver seems like he could care less what's happening. Injuries to Rivera, Clemens and Pettite really hurt the pitching staff. And Karsay is a bum.

Bottom line. There are not many Yanks, who have the killer instinct and that desire to win. Aside from Jeter, whose a leader on the Yankees? Berine? No. Soriano? No. Posada? No. White? No. I already said Giambi, Mondesi and Ventura aren't leaders either. Think about it. And pitchers aren't usually looked at for team leadership. Inspiration and field domination, yes. But leadership, not really.
