Good points -- I didn't really think they were throwing the game, but they sure played like it! At the risk of using a really lame analogy, it's like Rocky in Rocky III -- they didn't have the "eye of the tiger" that the Angels did. As for leadership, I think Giambi was a leader in Oakland, but it's too soon for him to be a leader in New York. And for all the whining this season about the Yanks getting Mondesi and Weaver, they didn't make a dime's worth of difference this season.

You don't understand. It's not the players I hate. In fact I shed a tear when the Mick died. The Yankee management, Steinbrenner especially, put baseball into the state it's in, turned a great and noble game into a shabby business. I know they didn't do it alone but they have the greatest part of the blame to bear.

To answer you question: My local rag this morning had the salaries listed at $171 Million for the losers, and $77 Million for my beloved Angels....How sweet it is...How can you lose when you have Clemens (who owns the Angels in his career), Mussina, Pettite (ok, he's overrated) and your #4 starter has 19 wins; your bullpen has a good, young ex-ace of the Tigers; you spend millions on platoon players, and buy everything you need???? HOW???? On the other hand, the Angels had heart, desire, and the ability to not care who gets the credit. They played a TEAM game. After starting out a club worst 6-14 through the first 20 games, they finished with a club record (by 6 games) 99 wins. Scoscia has worked some serious magic with this team. As much as I hate to say it, he's learned quite a bit from old Tommy Lasagna, er Lasorda when it comes to motivation. CONGRATS ANGELS...Its been a LOOOONG time....

Hat's off to the Angles. They played well. But it sure is nice to look back at what my favorite team has done over the years.

heh heh....we traded you Clemens for Wells and then traded Wells to the White Sox for some pitcher called Sirotka who has yet to pitch one ball in anger for the Blue Jays. You eventually got Wells back. So in essence you got the Rocket for nothing. We couldn't let that stand so we gave you sullen Mondesi to destroy you from within. LOL Beware Blue Jays bearing gifts.

After the Halo's meltdown in 1995, blowing an 11 game lead to the Mariners and forcing a one game playoff, which was lost, it started with a quote from Tim Salmon;

"Sometime, it'd be good to get this monkey off our backs."

It was continued by some diehards that started bringing stuffed monkeys to the games in 1996, and waving them around when the Angels were behind.

By 2000, the "Rally Monkeys" were firmly entrenched at Edison Field, even being a give away that season.

At least from a personal point of view, a team can be respected for what it is done, and still get rooted against.

I did'nt start really being a 'Yankee Hater' until the '98 World Series, and got a lot of first hand reports on the behavior of the fans towards the Padres, their families, and their fans at Yankee Stadium.

As a Baseball fan, I do owe that franchise a lot of history and moments, though.
