I think the USSC did exactly right. Contemptible as the NJ decision was, it's none of the Supremes' business.

Four of the NJ judges were appointed by a republican.

Christie Todd Whitman. From Ann Coulter's Slander:

Governor Whitman singlehandedly turned the New Jersey Supreme Court into the the most ridiculous court in the nation, easily overtaking the once-infamous California Supreme Court and even beating back stiff competition from the Florida Supreme Court. If Whitman had chosen judicial nominees by randomly pointing to names in a telephone book, New Jersey would have been better served.

This is MOST frustrating. I am hoping we get SOME explanation from the SCOTUS. I assume what this is ...is the court NOT granting cert.

The ONLY think I can think is that the court viewed it as a States issue...which confuses me even more. Federal voting laws DO dictate the law in this case, no?

The new Jersey Statute was clear and Article I section IV is clear

Is that the 51 day rule ? Didn't you listen to McGreevy -- the law is SILENT on what can be done after the 51 day limit has passed (*grrrrrr*)

'democrats are emotional. Maybe he could get the sympathy vote"

And let's not forget Missouri voting for a dead man because they felt sorry for his widow.....milk the sympathy and debate the issues!

This issue was not one for the SCOTUS

I'm taking a lot of freepheat for merely saying something that normally people here would support.

It has been suggested that this old timer has a bit of demensia. From the things he said when he accepted the appointment by the DNC and Senate Dems I believe he is a little addled. Agreeing in grandiose style to 21 debates to be held in 30 days! I really wish Forrester could get 21 debates in 30 days. Old whatshisname would crumple and fold right before the cameras.

Forrester can easily beat him especially on his past record and lack of coherence during the next 30 days. Unless NJ is so hopelessly knee jerk dem that nothing can unseat the
party of the "screw you"'

Yeah, murder is illegal too, but the law is silent after you murder someone.

What irks me about this is the brazen attitude the Dems had about all of this. They had the deck stacked, and all the pounding of the Court over Bush v. Gore worked. They scared at least one and probably TWO justices from stepping to the plate again.

How did the Democrats stack the deck, given that Republican Christine Todd Whitman nominated six of the seven NJ Justices who ruled 7-0 in against the rule of law and in favor of the Democrats?

I get the feeling this is just the beginning of disappointments for this election season.

The rats will cheat in all these close senate races and come out on top.

I'm finding it hard to be an optimist, anymore.

The last week of the campaign the president should be in New Jersey for about 4 of the days just to piss off the RATS.

Democrats politics of personal destruction. The court is cowering from the Florida election. The PC Dictators rule the court now.

Cristie Todd Whitman was the Republican who picked 4 of NJ's Justices and she is nothing but a worthless RINO!

Whitman picked six of the Justices.

Having Souter represent the circuit is a formality. There weren't enough justices who wanted to take the case.

You can't blame this on the lawyers.

Well, there should be two disbarred SCNJ justices right now.
