I hope you don't think I was bashing you personally with any of my comments...I wasn't. You seem very reasonable. (Except for your "A few million muslims are probably good people" comment...That was over the edge, in my opinion).

Many times in the OT when the Israelis were sinful God allowed their enemies to succeed. He did not protect them until they turned from their sin. It is basic Christian (or Jewish even) doctrine.

Sodom and Gomorrah. NYC. Compare/contrast.

Sorry, but I don't debate with people who can't maintain a conversation without jumping around making no sense at all.

See ya!

Why all the HATE speech here for Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson....
They are both loud mouths who don't know when to shut up. That's not hate speech.
...both are GREAT MEN!
Wrong. On a good day, they are average televangelists.
They have the COURAGE to speak the truth when others, not even CONSERVATIVES, will do it.
A lot of people are speaking out.
Islam is evil and violent...if you read the Koran you know that.
That's hate speech.
God is calling us to REPENT and I believe Falwell is right, God DID lift his hand of protection from American on Sept. 11. Yes, radical Islam is to blame for 9/11 but we were not protected for a reason.....are there no inquisitive minds out there any more that ponder things such as this?????
What's all this "protect" stuff all about?
Some of these posts make me amazed how many secular, humanist we have in the Freeper ranks....I thought we would have more CHRISTIANS here! Or maybe many of you are liberals just keeping an eye on us Freeper good guys...... Fellow Freepers, get right with God first....then boldly push the Conservative Agenda!
Stop preaching. Respectfully, you should buy a tambourine and join the Salvation Army.
You need to GET AN AFTER-LIFE!
I'm still working on the AFTER-BIRTH thing.

An asinine post.

Got to you, didn't it?

What you and Falwell are actually doing is seeking to find a way to make Christianity a "cult of death" in order to justify a war on one billion Muslims.

The United States was attacked by your precious Muslims, not the other way around. Falwell simply states the obvious about Islam and it's founder. That you don't like it is your problem and all your bitter, angry posts here won't change a thing.

Nothing new here, just a different day. Falwell proves his belligerency by the intemperateness of his remarks.

Falwell was not 'intemperate', he simply abandoned the 'Islam is Peace' nonsense and told the truth about your favorite 'religion'.

As I recall, and please correct me if I'm wrong, Christ said something about peacemakers being blessed, not belligerents. Since you're the expert, and you've designated the rest of us as "Christian-haters," perhaps you can enlighten me and clear up the apparent contradiction.

Jerry Falwell spoke the truth about Islam. He was not advocating violence. You're the one posting angry rants against a man of God. Your hatred is almost palpable.

It takes repulsive pomposity to claim that only "Christian-haters" reject the inanities that flow as a mighty river from the maw of Jerry Falwell.

Another example of your hatred for a Christian man based on nothing but an apparent rejection of Chistianity. Making Jerry Falwell a whipping boy fools no one. It's his religion that generates this kind of anger.

Despite the fondest wishes of both you and Jerry, the United States military will not now --- nor will it ever --- wipe Islam off the face of the earth.

Ah, delusional paranoia finally rears it's ugly head. You're out of your mind and totally uninformed if you truly believe that's what a war on Iraq or on terrorism is about.

We're done here.

Islam is a terrible religion for its followers and an even worse religion for those of us who are not Muslim. The fact that it has 1 billion followers does not give me solace, it only makes the religion that much more of a threat.

The KKK has a religion which it calls "Christian Identity", and this religion views the Klan's enemies the same way Islam views the Infidels. If I was black, Jewish, or Catholic and "Christian Identity" had a billion followers I would be worried. In the same vein, I am an Infidel and Islam worries me.

I don't expect Jews or Catholics to be tolerant of "Christian Identity" and you shouldn't expect non-Muslims to be tolerant of Islam.

I consider anyone who condemns the Muslim Faith and ALL who follow it a racist (Or whatever word you want to apply rather than "Race"). Free Republic is FULL of these Haters...As is the Christian Faith (They treat them like they used to treat the Jews) is full of them as well...And Fallwell is their leader.

Seeing as you've just condemned the Christian faith, what does that make you.

We are the most Christian nation in the world...

God doesn't grade on a curve. We're better than some, but we aborted 30 million babies since Roe v. Wade. We allow our culture to celebrate the homosexual lifestyle, and allow public institutions to teach it to our children as a valid lifestyle choice. Virginity before marriage seems soquaint now- something the Amish do. Our business people don't even teach ethics to newcomers, and even our newscasters casually take the name of the Lord in vain. And we are a free people. We corporately chose this lifestyle.

God is God, and He has every right in the universe to grant or withhold protection from us. That this concepts offends so many only shows how far we've fallen.

Your reply to me is nonsense, based a slew of wrong assumptions. I have been a serious Christian all my life. Falwell is an embarrassment both to Christianity and to conservatism, and his belligerent slur against Islam --- "cult of death" --- was deliberately intended to incite violence. One does not evoke a violent image --- DEATH --- unless one intends to incite hatred and violence between groups. The remark is a direct violation of the Sermon on the Mount.

Islam needs a Reformation, and may get one if the United States is successful in introducing better government to the Middle East. But remarks like Falwell's only make the President's task more difficult and are completely and totally unhelpful to him. Falwell indulged in childish inanity, his specialty. He is an utter fool.

You're quite wrong to equate all of Islam with Christian Identity. The fundamentalist movement in Islam, instituted by the Egyptian al-Qutb in the middle of the 20th century, and from which the current crop of violent extremists spring, is equatable with Christian Identity, however, and has about the same ratio of members to all Muslims as Christian Identity does to Christianity. In other words, it's a tiny percentage.

In the post-911 world, a lot of nonsense has been published about Islam. It's important to remember, as Islamist scholar Bernard Lewis has written repeatedly, that the vast majority of Muslims --- hundreds of millions of individuals --- are peace-loving subsistence farmers, among the poorest people in the world, who have not the slightest intention of going to war against the United States.

Well now that's a really intelligent response. Sorry but Falwell is a "christian" extremist. Al-Queda members are muslim extremists. One extremist is just as damaging as another.

Besides, it was at best less than honest and at worst a provacative lie to say Mohammed was a terrorist. Falwell is not stupid enough to not know the common origins of Judeo/Christian religions and Islam. So it was apparently a provacative lie. And a lie purposely stated to further enflame tensions most likely with the hope that the enflamed tensions and fighting will hasten the second coming of Christ. There is an obvious end game here. So why then doesn't Falwell come clean with the Jews and tell them that when Christ does come that his fellow "christians" will have to kill them if they don't convert to Christianity? Instead he buddies up to them in a very insincere way.

You think Islam is a violent religion? In 2000 years, Christianity has proven no less violent. Falwell has yet to denounce anyone that has murdered an abortion doctor or bombed and killed people in an abortion clinic. When people do this they break God's commandment against murder plain and simple. But its ok with Falwell.

Jesus ridiculed the Pharisee. I think He would bust a gut laughing at the things people like Falwell do in His Name if it wasn't so dangerous.

I guess Lincoln was also "sick". Quote from his Proclomation of a National day of Fasting, August/1861:

Characterizing a nation at war with itself, and it's own people with each other in this way is one thing.
It's pretty obvious that evil is from within the nation.

Claiming the murder of innocent civilians by terrorists who hate America is really punishment from God is quite another.
Lincoln did not make such a statement.
Your comparison is not accurate.

Isaiah 6:13
But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

My take is that this is referring to the US, not the jews.

You make a bogus statement. God allowed many things to befall His people at the hands of pagans. He allowed Satan to buffet Job. He asked a demon to harass Saul, etc. You have no basis in fact to support such a statement.

Waaaaay off base. If you head down that road, you'll soon have to admit that somehow Islam's war on us is 'holy'--because it was inspired by God to punish us. We are the most Christian nation in the world, so let's not start guessing at God's thoughts and reasons on this one.

Quite often, throughout the Old Testament, He used heathen nations to try and 'wake up' His people. When the prophets would try to warn them in advance, they were murdered.

God allowed many things to befall His people at the hands of pagans. He allowed Satan to buffet Job. He asked a demon to harass Saul, etc.

God allowed Satan to harrass Job because Job was a GOOD man...and for this reason was put to the test.

This is exactly the opposite claim Falwell and our junior message board Pharisee's make...which was that God allowed kooks to fly planes into buildings and murder thousands for America's sin.

On the other hand God had a demon harrass Saul because he was God's hand picked leader for God's theocratic nation of Isreal, and he had turned his back on God.

This is because the Bible teaches that "judgement BEGINS with the house of God", and if America is the "Christian nation" many like to say it is, that would tell us it is because of the OF THE FAILURES OF THE CHURCH God allows such judgements.
Not "abortionists, liberals, homosexuals", etc. who Falwell and the rest of these Pharisees want to blame 9/11 on.
