Shedded by Judiciary: Senate Democrats cast off another appointee.

We'd just as soon stop writing about judicial politics. But then Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy pulls a stunt like the one he did yesterday to block appeals-court nominee Dennis Shedd, and we really have no choice.

Mr. Leahy pulled a fast one on both Senate rules and courtesy by reneging on his multiple promises to give Judge Shedd a committee vote this fall. In the process he took a special slap at retiring Senator Strom Thurmond. A fellow South Carolinian, Mr. Shedd used to work for Mr. Thurmond when he was chairman of Judiciary. Mr. Leahy had assured the Senator as recently as last week that Judge Shedd would get a vote. He'd made similar promises to Senators Hatch, Grassley and Brownback, among others.

If/when the Senate is in Repub hands this fall, Bush should put up ultra-conservative, constructionist, activist judges for all open positions.
These rats won't allow him the Constitutional rights that all presidents have - to appoint judges. They need to be taught a lesson.

Oh, and I know that "constructionist" and "activist" are often mutually exclusive. What I mean by that is that the circuits and supremes should pull up any case they can in which the law is not strictly constructionist, and rule that the law is void.

Time to fight back, and hard.

"Bush has not a clue on how to play hardball politics."

What's your suggested action?

If the RATS think this will help them in SC, they are in for an ugly surprise. The backlash against the RATS has just begun.

The Democrats have shed yet another of President Bush's judicial nominees. And why not? They figure they're on a roll and while the going is good, its better to go out of business with bang instead of a whimper.

Goody...

Glad you asked...

Firstly, Reagan knew when it was time to take his problems to the American people. He always portrayed the democrats as they realy were, obstructionists, they did not like to have the spotlight on them in that fashion.

Secondly, directly, Bush should hold or withdraw any more names with a short, public announcement, at a news conference. Name Leahy and his cohorts. Explain it to the American people, how they are being denied a voice in the courts because of a handful of demagogues, there is nothing to lose, his people are being cast aside by the democrats.

Yes, but in the process they are hurting all endangered Democratic incumbents by enraging the conservative base in MN, SD, GA etc. The RATS are only hurting their own.

And I certainly agree that the president must use the bully pulpit on this and label the obstructionists for the American people. Enough is enough.

Does anybody still believe Democraps promises? They are just like Clinton's who would rather lie when the truth would be better for them.

This is only a prelude as to what will happen when openings on the supreme court come about. The dems will make the Bork and Thomas hearings appear as afternoon tea parties.

Unfortunately, we have to establish a documented "track record" so blatant on someone doing a wrong thing these days, and offer the American people such undeniable proof, that these things tend to be what HAS to happen, before there is a case to be taken to the American people by our President.

W does not have the luxury of being able to merely accuse the Dems of this until they offer this type of horrific proof. You and I know that even WITH this type of horrific proof, there will STILL be Dems comparing these actions to that of the same taken by Pubs when x42 was Pres.

W also has been saddled with the situation of fewer Pubs in the Senate than he was supposed to have, thanks to that jerk, Jeffords, too.

W is doing an excellent job, given the rotten deck he's been dealt.

Here's another thing to ponder: What if (and I truly believe this IS true) the DNC is the REAL reason those dock workers in CA are giving our economy such a blow? If the economy isn't doing badly enough...the Dems INVENT trouble to take it down.

Just remember you are on the side of the good guys, and stop ranting about those that are trying. It's much more difficult to do what W and his team do every day, than to sit back and write about how badly he (IYHO) is doing on one of the hundreds of problems he's faced and deals with in a day!

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK GEORGE! --IT'S SO REFRESHING TO HAVE A PRESIDENT WE CAN BE PROUD OF!!!

Dissent keeps this country strong. We had the dems all in lockstep for clinton, regardless of what he did. This country suffered thru eight long years because "not one" democrat would speak up.

Your reply doesn't fit the original question you posed, and what my response to you substantiated.

The subject of your post dealt with your opinion that W should do what Reagan did and "take it to the people." I responded that it seems in this day and age, that really bad things have to take place and be used as an example in order to WAKE people up to those that are doing the bad things. THEN and only then, will the President have the proof he needs to do what you suggest...

Then, you post back that "dissent keeps this country strong." Your REAL agenda is showing!
