Oprah show, Wednesday, 10/09 lays out case against Iraq
Oprah Show | 10/09/02

Oprah has done what the networks denied President Bush. She has reached the American public with the case for war on Iraq, now rather than later. West Coasters..catch Oprah, your jaw will drop!

I'm so glad someone else was watching. Oprah had on as her guest, Kenneth M. Pollack, the author of
THE THREATENING STORM: The Case for Invading Iraq

I was sooooooo surprised along with you. Oprah's first guest was this guy, an expert analyst from back in the first Bush Administration, whose main study over all these years has been Saddam Sussein, and his point of view is, we should get rid of Saddam now.

She also had on a Hussein survivor, a guy who gave first hand experience with the brutal regime. He said Iraq is the only government in the world who has rapists on their payroll. Saddam pays to have dissident women raped.

Judith Miller's taped report on the horrors Saddam is capable of, would put the fear of God in anyone.

I was amazed as Oprah let all this pro-Bush resolution information reach her audience. She did not interrupt or argue...this was really an informational show.

One idiot in the audience said 'the first president Bush had trouble with Saddam, now this president Bush has problems, but we didnt' have any problems when Clinton was president. It was a major DUH moment. That stupid, stupid woman couldn't figure out from her own analysis that Clinton had intentionally failed to protect our country from Saddam, for a decade. Oprah got it. She seemed incredulous that this woman was trying to make such a flawed argument.

I checked on amazon.com at the start of Oprah, because I had never heard of the book....it was # 46 in sales. Just an hour or so ago, it had risen to # 37, and is now # 27. Pretty amazing, huh?

This German woman really began tearing up when she spoke of the fact that Germans - and the world -- looked the other way while Hitler built his empire and committed genocide. It took a world war to take him out. I felt that this was one of the more powerful moments in the show -- yes, Iraqi's should have their freedom -- but more than that, we have GOT to learn from the past.

That's the point when I turned the show on and I figured she was crying about how we should open our borders and give everyone a chance in America. I figured it would be an anti-Bush show so I turned it off. Guess I shouldn't kept watching...darn.

This is no joke. It's one of the most compeling and effective presentations of the case against Saddam Hussein that I've seen to date.

Maybe Dubya can get Oprah onto his national security team?!

In the Los Angeles area Oprah used to be replayed late at night, like at 1:30 a.m. or so. Is that still the case? If so, set the VCR's to tape the show.

It's like being in an alternate universe reading this thread. BTW, anyone here read the book: The Threatening Storm? I've just placed an order with my library. We should have our own book club!

You know it was Oprah who got Dubya elected, don't you? She's a very reasonable and conservative person at heart, certainly no Donohue.

If that is true, then maybe we should put Oprah on the job here in Michigan to defeat Granholm.

If Saddam only brutalized his own people, the US wouldn't do a thing about it.

I can think of quite a few missions we've been involved in where the U.S. fought in order to help others and not because we were threatened. But this is beside the point.

I think you are implying that there is something wrong with a nation only acting when it is threatened? While your belief is noble, the devil is in the details.

It's like the people who always says, "someone needs to do something about this", or "we need to do something about this". In both of these cases the "someone" and the "we" means not me. Your beliefs would be much more admirable if you were suited up and ready to go fight for them, but you're not. You're just another armchair loser.

Even Oprah cannot part the Red Sea. She can influence some people to a degree.

The part I liked was when Dave compared Saddam to a cancer and suggested that he be taken out. I guess some liberals are actually taking Saddam's WMD and national preservation seriously now.

I missed the show but want to ask all who did watch it: how sure are you that she wasn't doing a fair presentation of the case to go to war and tomorrow will she lay out a case against the war?

She must have pods in her cellar.

Hehe. What, an Invasion of the Body Snatchers where the liberals turn into conservatives? Fantastic idea! We can dream, can't we?

A long time ago my dad told me he'd seen an interview with Oprah in which she commented that America can't be as racist as people insist. If it were, how do they explain an overweight black woman having a number one show on TV?

I like the show sometimes, depending on topic. Lots of crying though.

Maybe I have too!
I didn't watch the show. Don't watch Oprah. Got so very tired of the audience looking at her like she was a God.
I don't need O to tell me to read a book. I am glad all
thought the show was good. But saying it's a done deal now
cause O told us? I must be too cynical.
