CORRALITOS, Calif.(AP) - A man with the environmental activist group Earth First! has died after a 50-foot fall from a redwood tree in which he'd lived for several weeks.

Rescue personnel were called to the scene of a logging operation in the Ramsey Gulch area about 20-miles south of San Jose on Tuesday night after loggers heard moans coming from the area where a group of tree-sitters has been camped since August, the group said. It was unclear how long the injured man had been on the ground.

He was probably bogarting his bong and toppled out backwards.

A tree as large as Luna is much more valuble then 50,000.00 dollars in terms of clear, close grained old growth wood. I also doubt if staying in a tree in the tempermental weather of that area for as long as she did is any incentive either.

Wow really? I did not know that...thanks!

That guitar player is playing an instrument made out of dead trees.

Looks like its a Koa or rosewood guitar possibly made out of 1000 year old Brazilian Rosewood trees. Bless his heart. At least one of those protesters can recognize that these 1000 year old trees can make pretty cool stuff when you chop them down. Timbre.

If he was a "REAL" environmentalist, he'd be playing a Martin Aluminum Guitar. Yes they make them. They sound pretty darn good too.

The smartest thing in this photo is the dog.

At least the dog is walking away!

You're right! It is the time of year that the nuts fall off the trees.

"I think the tree pushed him."

No...trees don't kill people. Dumb people kill dumb people themselves.

The tree falling on David Chain killed him. Unless one has a huge baseball glove, trees do indeed kill. ;-)

I will say a prayer for his soul. But God help me...I can't help but chuckle at such stupidity.

>>They seem to value trees more than human life. <<

I forget what it ws the day it hit me that they cry save the spotted owl, save the trees, save the baby seals, protect a womans right to choose. I suppose it was just coincidence that I ran into a save something nonhuman within minutes of something about protecting abortion. It was a real wake-up kind of moment- I had never seen it in that light before.

Somone here on FR pointed out that it is a federal crime punishable by jail time and a fine to screw with an eagle egg but have an abortion is a constitutionally protected "right."

I have to pass this one to my husband- this quote perfectly sums up his entire personality.

"Julia suggests that anyone who wants to visit Luna plant a tree in honor of what Luna symbolizes: perseverance, strength and healing. Read more. "

Read more? As in "books"?

But ... but ... but don't books use paper? And isn't paper made from ... (gasp!) ... wood? And doesn't wood come from ... (oh, no!) ... trees? Oh, the humanity of murdering those stately living creatures only for ... books!

Let the body rot...fertilize the next tree to grow in the spot he was attempting to save and allow the skeleton to serve as a warning to those who would seek to unbalance the circle of life by shielding a portion of it from reality.

How hard was the bar?

See, these people walk into wooden bars and apologize to the bar, but if they walk into steel bars, they hurt.

Thick skulls.
