What a game! My son called me on his cell phone from the Cotton Bowl with only a minute left to play as those last fans of Burnt Orange were finding the exits.

Sooner Magic is alive and well! "Q" had a fantastic game!!!! And the final play of the game -- Simms was sacked!

That's because the Oklahoma Sooners had more to offer Bob Stoops and his coaches! No one from Iowa even contacted him until he had agreed to come to Norman.

Bob Stoops wanted to come to a program that had a history of winning and he chose wisely. We are lucky to have him and his assistant coaches!

LOL!!! There is nothing PC or touchy feely about our coaching staff here in Norman.

I almost cracked up when I heard the announcer say that Texas was downing it at the end of the 1st half because Mack Brown didn't want Simms to have another interception and feel bad. I couldn't believe what I was hearing!

I will take a Defensive Coach turned Head Coach in Bob Stoops who believes in conditioning hard, practicing hard, and playing hard. Most of all he believes in no excuses. We have one of the toughest offseason conditioning in the Nation which I think makes a difference by the 4th Quarter!

Was listening to Thomas Lott on the radio yesterday and he was saying in his Sophomore and Junior year that Switzer and his offensive coordinator played very conservative and called very little option and they lost. So in his Senior year, the coach would send in the plays, and Lott would change them on the field. Said he wasn't going to lose another game to Texas by being conservative and we won his senior season. Lott said you have to go all out to win and forget being conservative.

"Yes, I blame the play calling more than Simms. Simms didn't play poorly, but he didn't play great either. The play calling was awful. I hope Mack gets his act together soon."

He better. Mack better get ready for the barrage of criticism he deserves. He's not very thick skinned, but he needs to suck it up and take the blame for this one.

My dad and I once had a conversation about college recruiting. I told him that if high school players were required to attend the university in the same state in which they played high school ball, Texas would own the national championship.

What happened? The team with the better coach won. Can't blame this on Chris Simms, with all those dropped balls only 1 interception was his fault. I think we all knew what the end would be when Mack had Simms take a knee at the end of the first half.

Here's what I said on another thread:

Hey Mack, there's more to coaching than recruiting, ever heard of mental preparation, responding to adversity instead of folding?

Can't blame this one on Simms, receivers have to hang onto the ball. Once again, Mack proves he doesn't know how to mentally prepare his team for the big game. Offense was sloppy and tentative, special teams pathetic. The defense played exceptionally well, but just ran out of gas after too many 3 and outs(in effect the OU offense had 5-6 quarters of play). It all started last year when Mack was dumb enough to allow all that Mr. Heisman BS garbage talk. Perform BEFORE you brag. And after the Big 12 Championship fiasco in the same location, where an offsides cost Texas an appearance in the national championship game, you would think at minimum Mack wouldn't let his team repeat the same mistake. But the play of the game was the UT jumping offsides on 4th down at the end of the 2nd quarter, that gave OU a first and goal.

So what happens when Texas falls behind? 3 and out ad naseum, and then folding like pup tent. Team mental weakness, and that falls squarely on the coach's shoulders. Nearly 2 decades ago a Texas coach ultimately defined himself. Texas came into the Cotton Bowl facing Georgia, and would be the undisputed nat'l champs if they simply won. The UT defense was spectacular, Georgia only crossed midfield twice, both due to Texas fumbles deep in their own territory. Yet they converted that into a 10-9 win, and Fred Akers defined himself as the Coach Who Couldn't.

Way to go Mack, at least you'll be enshrined in the Underachiever's Hall of Fame."

Well, I told my dad that every once in awhile California or Florida would sneak one in, but I'll bet Texas would win 8 out of 10.

High school football is much much much bigger than NFL or college ball in most of Texas. My grandpa used to live in Brownwood, and I remember the games there were amazing. The whole town would show up. The fan support was unbelievable. It's that way from Waskom to El Paso, and from Wichita Falls to Brownsville.

It borders on religion down there. Plus, every program in the country heavily recruits in Texas. A Sooner friend and I watched a game awhile back and were surprised that about 80% of the Oklahoma players introduced were from Texas.

Florida would win the national championship every single year if we had the rule you just discussed. Most of the players from UF, FSU and Miami are from Florida. Making an allstar team from these guys would make them practically unbeatable.
