Is America Going Insane?
Toogood Reports ^ | October 29, 2002 | Allan C. Stove

Who can blame us Americans for feeling that we´re passengers on a runaway train called the United States, helpless to stop it before it runs over a symbolic cliff—taking us and our children and grandchildren with it into a Brave New World or 1984 or worse? A Harris poll found that most of us believe "the people running the country don't really care what happens to you.” Politicians, media wonks, celebrities, judges, teachers, professors, and “activists” endorse a national insanity as though it were normal. Small wonder so many of us are convinced that inmates run our American asylum.

In a typical burst of political insanity, political leaders in Tennessee, California, Colorado, and elsewhere are seriously considering issuing driver´s licenses to illegal aliens. Remember, these are illegal aliens who sneak across our borders, while their compatriots back home who apply legally wait for years—or forever. Illegals don´t undergo mandatory police and background checks back home that would uncover their records as criminals, organized crime members, TB or AIDS carriers, sexual predators, or terrorists. Illegals here commit far more crimes per capita than legal immigrants or native-born Americans.

A state driver´s license gives illegals valid identification that allows them to blend into American society as though they belonged here legally. How convenient for a Russian Mafia kingpin, a Columbian drug importer, a serial killer, or the Islamic barbarians responsible for the 9/11 murder of 3,000 innocent Americans.

It doesn´t end there. Politicians even want to grant them resident college tuition. Nonresident legal immigrants and American citizens pay high nonresident tuition. Legal foreign students also pay through the nose. Illegal aliens who break our laws by sneaking across our national borders, however, get the lowest bargain rate.

The Denver Post featured illegal alien Jesus Apodaca, who claimed he couldn´t afford out-of-state tuition at University of Colorado and wanted American and Colorado taxpayers to subsidize him. The Mexican consulate in Denver allegedly planted the story to pressure Colorado to grant resident tuition to illegal Mexicans.

Congressman Tom Tancredo showed courage by asking the INS whether they planned to enforce immigration laws concerning Señor Apodaca. The leftist media reaction? They vilified him. Mark Krikorian, in National Review, reported: “The media/political class has responded as you might expect. One columnist slammed ‘law-and-order sanctimony,´ another called Tancredo's effort a ‘cynical ploy,´ while a third quoted Clarence Darrow to call the congressman a ‘moron.´ A Rocky Mountain News editorial compared him to Inspector Javert from Les Miserables, ‘the literary symbol of doctrinaire and unfeeling justice.´”

The insanity goes on and on. The Family Research Council reported that the New York Times and other major newspapers “are running announcements of homosexual partnerships and ‘commitment ceremonies´ on the same page as wedding announcements, changing the page's heading to ‘Weddings/Celebrations.´” The “celebrations” of homosexuals and lesbians are now the moral equivalent of wedding ceremonies that join men and women in holy matrimony.

Homosexuals now legally adopt children, serve in the military, and mentor children as Big Brothers and Big Sisters. In many jurisdictions, homosexual “partners” enjoy the same benefits as married couples. Our children in school have to accept homosexuals, transsexuals, and transvestites as “normal” or be branded as bigots. Wall Street Journal reports that the National Education Association created a task force “to determine if the NEA should formally support gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender curricula in public schools.”

The insanity continues. American patriotism since 9/11 hasn´t been shared by our taxpayer-funded universities. Columnist Thomas Sowell reported that at the University of California at Berkeley, “The American flag was banned because it might offend people from other countries. ‘The Star Spangled Banner´ was banned because it was considered too militaristic, while ‘G-d Bless America´ was not regarded as an acceptable substitute because G-d is politically incorrect in Berkeley.”

Leftist professors hate our flag and anthem and use foreign students as an excuse to ban them. If any foreign students do feel offended, let´s ship them home, never to return.

It gets worse. A Princeton professor insists parents have the right to euthanize newborn children who have defects. A Harvard professor advocates abolishing the white race.

Americans also endure insane government land grabs, in which the rights of insects, birds, rats, and fish override the rights of American citizens. In a ruling typical of hundreds of rulings across America, government bureaucrats prohibit logging over thousands of acres in the Pacific Northwest to give the spotted owl breeding and feeding space. Thousands of American workers have lost their livelihoods, taxpayers subsidize owl habitats at thousands of dollars per bird in “owl guarantees,” and communities have become ghost towns.

There´s more. In Klamath Falls, Oregon, our government lured returning World War II veterans to homesteads there by guaranteeing that irrigation water would flow forever. Forever lasted until the Clinton administration reneged on another government promise to its citizens. Government agents invoked the draconian Endangered Species Act, which The American Enterprise magazine notes, “allows almost no room for compromise or common sense in its implementation.“ Agents shut off the water to the farmers and diverted it to local suckerfish. The farmers´ fields dried up, and some have been forced into bankruptcy or poverty. As expected, the insane leaders of our insane nation supported the fish.

Yes, it´s insanity. But what´s more insane is the absence of outrage. Where are the massive protests, the fighting back? We are heirs to the great American spirit that inspired the Boston Tea Party, Lexington, Concord, and Yorktown. We benefit from the legacies of our Founding Fathers and the colonists who risked so much to free America of tyranny and oppressive government. Yet, we wimp out and do nothing and let the insanity overwhelm our beloved nation with scarcely a whimper.

Where are the massive protests, the fighting back?

How are we to effectively protest, when the Fourth Branch of Government (the Leftist Media) and the Fifth Branch (the NEA) have almost all public venues of discourse bottlenecked? Eve if we COULD protest, what effect could that possibly have on the SIXTH Branch - the unelected in-power-for-life elite imperial bureaucracy? All that is left, barring an unforseen miracle, is armed revolt.

America, as those of us old enough to remember it, with true freedom and justice, no longer exists. What does exist is a fervent prayer that Red Nation and Blue Nation can separate peacefully. Peaceful separation will allow those who cherish freedom to live free, and those who desire government intervention from cradle to grave to perish in their self induced slavery.

According to the PATRIOT USA act, attempts to influnce government policy through "intimidation" (which "massive protests" and "fighting back" surely are, by any definition) qualify as DOMESTIC TERRORISM.

As John Ashcroft has already pointed out, those who attempt to frighten citizens with the "phantoms of liberties lost" are aiding the terrorists.

By posting this article, you are doing little more than advocating terrorism.

By trying to scare people, you are aiding the terrorists.

BTW, the Boston Tea Party was domestic terrorism too, no different than WTO & IMF anarchist protestors causing property damage at Starbuck's in Seattle 3 years ago.

Why the surprise? This is what happens to a country with no de facto establishment of religion. Shorn of its long-acknowledged and near-universal Christian culture, America is just another continenal empire held together by force. When there is no Natural Law basis for custom or statute, a society's collective definitions of right and wrong (and legal and criminal) become subject to the whims of the Mob, the personal politics of the judiciary, and the opinions of the superstars, journalists, and demagogues who dominate them via the popular culture and the information media.

In The Brothers Karamazov, Dostoyevsky's Ivan Karamazov famously contends that without God, everything is permitted. Like the victims of Russia's atheistic Bolsheviks, we sons and daughters of the global humanist Revolution should not be surprised when our much-vaunted "freedom" from God and His laws turns out to be less a Paradise than a Hell.

Thise who refuse to recognize that our liberties are under attack are aiding the terrorists.

1. why address this response to me?
2. I find much of the measures taken in the name of "homeland security" unconstitutional, and can see how it paves the way to open imperium and the reduction of a free people to serfdom.
3. It is, according to the Founders, our right and duty to abolish a government which has gone far astray from its proper function. Openly discussing how the government has gone astry is not sedition, it is the essence of true patriotism.
4. to paraphrase Ben Franklin: He who would trade real freedom for an illusion of security shall soon have AND DESERVES neither.

Judging by the number of commercials I see for the happy pills to just "make it all better", and the profits those pills are generating, I'd say yes, we are insane.
