[history]
This year the networks say they have learned from the mistakes they made in 2000, when they prematurely called Florida first for Al Gore and then for George W. Bush. The Voter News Service, which underestimated the number of absentee ballots in Florida that year, claims it has completely revamped its methodology for this election. But the changes will mean slower calls on winners by the networks and less extensive data available for many races. That and the large number of too-close-to-call races for governor or senator could mean a longer night than usual for viewers who want to know the winners.

This is really great. It's the kind of information I know I will want tomorrow night, but I wouldn't have known I wanted it until the early numbers started to come in...and by then I'd be too wrapped up in the results to take the time to go look it all up. ;-)

This year the networks say they have learned from the mistakes they made in 2000, when they prematurely called Florida Have they now? Mr Fund has listed Florida at 7:00 PM, when we all know that Florida has two time zones. Is a repeat of 2000 in the works? Why forget that important detail? Or is it just because the western part of Florida is Republician?

I'm confident that Brother Fund is on the correct side of this issue
I believe this essay speaks to the trends as they emerge.
I'm sure the networks will call FL long before the polls close in the panhandle .

They have Florida listed at 7pm. This should be 8pm because as John Fund should remember, the panhandle of FL is in the Central Time Zone.

South Carolina has a tight governor's race between incumbent Democrat Jim Hodges and Republican Lt. Gov. Bob Peeler. I can't believe any of the rest of his analysis when he makes a blatant, easily checked mistake like this. Bob Peeler lost in the primary; Jim Hodges is running against Mark Sanford for Governor in SC. And it is going to be a VERY tight race, probably largely depending on how many homeless people Unca Jim can get to vote for him in return for free Powerball tickets.
