Um what exactly is your opposition to Kissinger? Those of you that think Kissinger was the wrong choice? Not enough of a partisan boot licker or what?

Read the book, "Reagan's War" which has substantial information from KGB files. Kissinger was a subversive the first time around. We don't need more of him.

Ken Starr..........oh I can just see it now.........for heaven's sake, give the President some credit for knowing how to play the game. The left wanted an investigation, they are going to get an investigation.

The most important part of this will be the recommendations that the committee makes.

Any committee with McCain as a member is bound to be nothing but show biz.

Just my opinion, of course.

McCain will not be on the Commission. It was stated on Fox News that current members of Congress are ineligible.

"I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of it's people. The issues are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for themselves"
Henry Kissenger

Not much of a friend of 'democracy'. One of our NGO's spent more money per voter there than the R & D's did on the presidential elections in our own country. It still took a coup to effect change

No one could possibly expect anything useful to come from such an exercise in futility
I don't know about that. Perhaps we will hear more about our friends the Saudi's as a result of this probe.
For some reason our administration does not want to talk about our "allies" potential involment.

Guiliani or even Ken Starr would have been better
I would rather not have Ken Starr waist anymore of our tax money...

He is a resident of Kent,CT. He rarely ventures to Manhattan; he works out of his home when he is not traveling around the world.

We have the recommendations from the Rudman/Hart Reports on Terror. They were comprehensive and exhaustive and a fine blueprint to improve the situation.

This is to investigate the breakdowns in intel that happened.

I'd prefer an investigative type of a person. Anyway, it won't amount to much more than a whitewash. Perhaps i'll be wrong. I can always hope.

Umm... Supporting Pinocet's oppressive regime in Chile, quietly condoning Pol Pot's regime in Cambodia..

As I recall the US supported Pinochet's coup against President Salvador Allende in Chile. So your opposition to Kissinger is that he carried supported and carried out his administration's policy goals or what?

"No one could possibly expect anything useful to come from such an exercise in futility, so it's just as well to have a pro running it who can keep it from getting out of control."

Considering the state the intelligence community deteriorated to under the Clinton administration you're probably right that it's an exercise in futility. They'll probably come up with really broad based conclusions that state the most obvious problems.

It's good to know they're bringing back 'traditional human intelligence gathering', though.

Maybe it won't be a whitewash. One thing for sure though -no one will be hurt as a result of this commission's work. In fact, if I were some obscure object of this investigation I'd be salivating at the possibility of being exposed, dreaming of notoriety and the book and Hollywood deals that surely follow it in this country! Whatta opportunity! Too cynical? Just watch!

Perhaps they will act faster (18 months is their format) much faster than the Congressional committee investigation that has gone on for months and has got nowhere. Let's give Dr. K and his troops the benefit of the doubt and see what they turn up.

How Dr K will deal with the RATS on the commission will be interesting to see. Will they put up the usual "protect Klintoon at all costs" smoke screens? Natch! Dr. K should have FR's Mia on the commission. That would help build a fire under them.

The commission will be able to subpoena any witness to testify so long as six members of the commission or the chairman and vice chairman agree. That's to make sure subpoenas are not issued on a partisan basis, and was a demand by Bush, who wanted to avoid finger-pointing.

Oh God forbid, we wouldn't want to do THAT.
