I wonder if those who voted "borders should be closed" realize they're advocating no imports, no exports, no tourism, and no international travel.

I wonder if those who voted "borders should be sealed and militarized" realize they're advocating spending tens of billions of ineffective dollars on a great leap toward a police state.

Needless to say, I voted "Illegal immigration is Aliens are the problem."

Once you vote in the poll, it is moved from the top of your page. If you have sidebars showing on your set-up, scroll down and you should see the current poll results at the end of the sidebar.

I wonder if those who voted "Illegal immigration is the problem" realize that more monitoring and documentation of employees would be a great leap forward towards a police state.

An acquaintance of mine owns several blueberry farms. On a "tip" (probably from a competitor), one of his farms was raided in a search for illegals. The federales came with guns and dogs shouting (in English!) for everyone to stop working. Of course most there didn't speak English. Scared the crap out of everyone.

No illegals were found. The stormtroopers confiscated some personal items and papers which have yet to be returned.

Police actions and enforcement should be confined as much as possible to the border.

WEll, I didn't see it - but I would have voted sealed and militarize. A 'sealed' border to me does not mean NO trafffic it means only legimate traffic. I don't speak for anyone else - but of course, there is legimate traffic that needs to come through - anyone else define it that way?

From TExas - having lived in no other state, I can't be sure - but I believe I would have voted the same way no matter - because it is the right thing to do.

During the war, I would like to see the borders militarized, but definitely not after. That's the thing that bothers me about such measures: They are put into place without a hint as to when or if they will be taken down. :-(

Regarding the poll itself, one of the principles of good polling, IIRC, is to construct the choices in such a way that they are mutually exclusive (unless one of the choices will be "all of the above," or variants on the theme, such as "a and b only," "b and c only," etc.).

The idea is that all major positions on a given issue should be represented in a good poll, and they should be seperate and distinct. That's the ideal. Of course, it's not always possible in the real world where mixed feelings and uncertainty abound.

As usual, it's hard to make up a short poll on a complicated subject. I'd like to reduce immigration somewhat, but not drastically; I'd like to seal the borders against illegals, but not to the point of disrupting commerce; I'd like to cut way back on Muslim immigrants in particular. Anyway, I too decided that the best choice is that illegal immigrants are the problem.

We need to fix our huge illegal immigrant problem, and we should NOT fix it by rewarding them once again with citizenship. Experience has show that that only encourages more illegal immigration, because it has proven to be a much easier way to gain citizenship than going through legal channels.

If there had been something on Muslim immigrants and Muslims admitted on green cards and student visas, I might have voted for that, or at least given it a high priority.

The borders are already militarized and it's working. I just read here on free republic that the militia is already scaring illegal aliens from crossing. They're afraid of being shot.

"sealed and militarized" bump.

I tend to agree it is poorly worded ,not clearly defining legal and illegal..but what I do know if we are ever to control immigration in this country again everything must STOP ...and a new policy developed with a monitoring and enforcement plan in place before ANYONE is allowed to immigrate again

This is a FR poll. Jim Robinson is the only one who can put it up. This is a major step in getting the issue to be recognized at FR. I applaud grania for her poll and think perhaps it prompted him to put an official FR poll on the sidebar. And thanks to Jim Robinson for asking for Freepers opinion.

Based on what I've observed with illegal immigration posts, I'm still surprised the poll hasn't been deleted.

There is a difference between closing the borders to immigration and quarantining this country.

At any rate, I support reducing legal immigration, curtailing illegal immigration, expelling immigrants, and reviewing current Green-card holders.
