Family of 4 deported to Poland

ORANGE, CT. For 12 years Dariusz and Anna Sak and their two children, 19-year-old Arek and 17-year-old Joanna, have lived a typical American life in Orange after arriving here from their native Poland.

But they are back in Poland now after being abruptly deported last week by the Immigration and Naturalization Service, which arrested them and had them immediately flown to their native country.

You'll have a hard time convincing me that judges shouldn't have a background in the law. Be that as it may, there are plenty of immigration attorneys who are funded by other parties to represent poor clients who are fighting deportation.

These people spoke English. There is no excuse for ignoring a court order. I certainly wouldn't try it, and I'm not going to make excuses for illegal aliens who try it.

I don't doubt that judges know the law. I doubt that judges apply the law without prejudice.

They didn't have a lawyer and they didn't have race hustling lobby behind them! It's sickening to watch some of the knee jerk chauvinistic reactions here. If this had been a Mexican, African, Haitian family, there would have been endless debates (here too), editorials in the New York Times, demonstrations on the steps of the Capitol, President Bartlett Martin Sh!t getting himself arrested, and the chauvinists here all intimidated and afraid to speak out for fear of being accused of RACISM! But a buncha honkies? Who cares? Buh, bye illegal aliens, while you gladly tolerate millions of brownskinned ones collecting welfare!

An illegal alien is a lawbreaker. There is no other status which describes this person.

If they are working in America, they are taking a job away from an American citizen or a legal alien who abided by our immigration laws upon entering our country.

Seems to me they're picking on the wrong folks to deport. Last time I looked there weren't any Polish terrorists flying planes into buildings.

Maybe the administration is afraid Mr. & Mrs. Sak would spread the lessons they learned living in Poland under a police state complete with domestic spy agencies, warrantless searches, no habeas corpus, counter-productive tax structures and all the other things Americans seem so eager to embrace these days.

I feel bad for the kids if their parents didn't keep them in the loop.
However, from what little actual facts are in the piece, it seems the family was treated by the book.
Now, this needs to be applied across the board, and you can't cry foul for certain people just because they have assimilated better than others.

At this time I'd also like to point out that things are not always as they seem. Not all immigrants are here for a free ride or to abuse welfare etc.
I work with a Mexican man who works his ass off and sends every extra dime after rent and food to his wife and kids in Mexico. A practicing Catholic with 6 kids, he's here because there's no money/jobs there. He's building a house there, that'll he'll go back to, as he has no intention of bringing his family here (he does have other relatives who did bring families here though) and staying. He says too much discrimination against Mexicans, and plus I just think it's the general way of life and culture. He probably would never have come here if he could have adequately supported his family by working in Mexico. Meanwhile, he works here and spends money here and contributes to the economy. I'll also add that it's a shame I don't see the type of work ethic and drive that this man has, in other people I've worked with over the years.

Every one gets equal treatment under the law - some more equal than others.

The Sak family has the misfortune of not belonging to a demographically important voting block.
I don't think that we will see many of the other 10,999,996 illegals given the same treatment.

The latest figures I can find are from 2000, and they show that we deported 1.6 million people from the US that year. I am having a real tough time believing that most of them were white.

The family here seems to entered the country legaly. They also seem to have attempted to comply with the law. I believe though they did not have a lawyer. The INS judges tend to be irritated at people who don't get a lawyer.

OK, fair enough, and I am having a tough time believing that most of them were middle class families pursuing higher education. In fact, I would suspect that most of them were wetbacks caught at the, let's see, would that be the Northern border, and immediately bussed back across!

You must admit, the figures make the INS look real good, don't they?

If he is not, and you know he is not, you are part of the problem in condoning and contributing to illegal immigration.How is he more "worthy" than the man in Venesuela who has his name on an immigration list and is awaiting his green card?

Yes, I think the 1.6 million figure is padded with the wetback apprehensions and immediate deportations to make the INS look good. I think that this article was written in the first place because it is a rare situation among the 1.6 million yearly deportations. And the gut reaction of the original poster was right on target.

In the end, I agree with the poster above who wsays they'll be better off back in Poland, maybe not financially, but in other ways, as Poland and other countries of Eastern Europe seem at the moment healthier politically, socially and culturally than the greatest land on earth.

"They were not criminal aliens, but were in violation of their status and they had been issued a final order of removal in August and given 30 days to tie up their affairs and depart."

These notices aren't sent in Polish?

"They had come here in a temporary status, and their visas had long expired," said Grenier. "These individuals were under a final order of removal, and had appeared before an immigration court."

So yes they were here legaly.

Agree 100%. There are tons of educated East Europeans who would love to immigrate here but can't since we cater to 3rd world riff-raff.
