Dec. 23 issue — Mitch McConnell, who loves his role as Washington’s coldest-blooded tough guy, got right to the point in a cross-country conference call last Friday night with a score of his fellow Republican senators. The topic: what to do about The Leader?

TRENT LOTT had just finished his fourth, and most fulsome, apologia for having praised Strom Thurmond’s stridently segregationist presidential campaign of 1948. Many GOP bosses—in and out of the White House—still wanted Lott bounced from his role as majority leader when the Congress returns next month.

Lott, for his part, distanced himself from the threat—even as aides still were making it on his behalf.

I remember a saying we used to have in the conservative wing of the GOP:

"Character Matters"

Well this is good that Lott will stay after all. Four years is a long time in politics.

Give Lott a plum chair and lets move on.

This article is ludicrous: "...the Southern, segregationist roots of the GOP"?! What the hell are they talking about?

They were called DixieCRATS for a reason.

Christ...does anyone in the mainstream meida remember Robert Byrd and the 'n' word?

Lott should go, but this idiocy has to stop.

The Democrats are re-writing history, and the Republicans are letting them.

" Give Lott a plum chair "

Apparently,Trent does not have enough seniority to be entitled to a chairmanship and there are no Republicans willing,as of yet,to give up their chairmanships to Trent.

Notice how the article makes no mention that in the "bad old days" when most of the eviil southern GOP Congresscritters first came to Congress, they were Democrats. And of course no mention at all of the Former(?) Klan Kleagle from West Virginia, the outgoing Democratic President Pro Tem of the Senate, and currently 3rd in line for the Presidency, after the V.P. and House Speaker. I guess it wouldn't be prudent to meniton him, and his use of the "N word" in public within the last couple of years? Perish the thought.

The media, fueled by the majority of sheeple listeners, have painted the entire Republican party as racist. This mess has legs, as the sheeple believe what they see on the nightly news and read in the local papers. Republicans have to get their act together and fast!

Our Republican representatives consistantly behave as toothless, old, indulgent parents. Is it any wonder then why the Democrats behave as spoiled and dangerous children?

I am mad at the media, the Dems and Lott. Then again the GOP is not doing much to fight back. Why do they let these people flock in our midsts?

Let us face it, if Lott cannot fight back on his own against the Dems, then he is not fit to stay. Not because of what he said but because he cannot even fight back.
