No text yet, just a radio report at the end of Rush's show.

Must be worried about the Russert report this morning that he is 'Far' from the 26 votes needed for a Senate Caucus victory.

However, some senators are apparently overseas.

Can they call a vote with so many out of town??

Does anyone know the rules??

Thanks, nice to know there are some other freepers who hate to see this man thrown to the wolves by the so called fair and balanced media hacks and the so called conservatives who populate the likes of FNC and talk radio.

I wish Lott the best altho I am far more conservative than he is......I don't like to see the media given the power over our party, our country, and the every day lives of our children in government schools.

The very thought that Mississippi governor thinks that Espy would be a replacement for Lott is stomach turning.

If there is another vote, it will not occur until January 6, absent something extraordinary taking place.

You should have seen the end of the interview when Shep mentioned OReilly.....the look on Jesse's mug was priceless.

What was Jesse's response? What was Jesse's response to the "Hymietown" question?

"MORE LOTT FALLOUT: SPLITTING THE BASE [Kate O'Beirne]

(Add to the long-term damage we can expect from the Lott affair the self-inflicted damage the White House risks doing with its conservative base. Conservatives are split over whether Lott ought to step aside. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and our own beloved Mark Levin no doubt speak for plenty of conservatives who are defending Lott, in part, because they can’t stand what they see as a capitulation to the dishonest grievance industry. Many of us fault the senator for handing the industry a race card and are unwilling to sacrifice a principled conservative agenda in an attempt to save him. The White House’s reaction to the controversy appears likely to alienate the entire conservative base. The president isn’t defending Lott and if he winds up similarly unwilling to defend the race-blind agenda conservatives have long championed, the movement will once more be unified--in opposition to his complete surrender to the race-baiters. >

True, praising Strom Thurmond on his 100 birthday was so much worse than Byrd calling some folks white niggers.....no doubt about it. After all, the media is telling us that's so and we go dutifully along with them. What good sheeple we are!

Quite simple. He said that Lott (like him) can redemn himself if he changes his behavior (supports affirmative action, etc). Lott appears to be doing this so I suspect that Jesse will support keeping him around.

Thanks Nita
I quite agree with your analysis. Lott is craven. It makes no sense to let Daschle contiue to control the Senate when Republicans are the majority party.

Of course it isn't worse. The media's duplicity is not in dispute here. What is in dispute is the ability of Trent Lott to lead a conservative agenda. Most here would argue Lott was never on board with said agenda to begin with, and he's certainly been weakened by this spectacle - whether it's fair or not.

Conservatives are about to get screwed no matter what we do. We may as well take the opportunity to jettison this ineffective leader while we're at it. At least something good can come of this.

Try massive RAT bailout attempt. The race pimps' faux kami-kaze dive was a little to steep to pull out of and now Trent showed us all precisely why he is a 100% liability and compromised himself for good when he opened his mouth about the failed 1948 campaign. But the RATS know that without the RAT-maleable Trent as ML, they actually will be challenged on the floor AND in the smokey back rooms. They are demanding censure now and Trent would go for it. But that flag isn't flying anywhere but in the Communist Black Caucus. Trent doesn't have the votes anymore than I do, unless there are 26 RINOs (meaning I don't have all of them identified yet). Every day he persists, he really puts the agenda in jeopardy.

Lanny Davis is now defending Lott! Lanny says...he's a man of integrity and character

This is like the Dems demanding that Bob Livingston resign ... and then begging him to reconsider when he did. This should convince all the folks whining about liberal PC attacks on Lott what is really going on here - the Dems want Lott weakened, in place for the next two years as a poster boy for their slime campaigns. The last thing they want is for Lott to actually step down as ML...

(Lanny Davis) Says he thinks Lott can still redeem himself and keep the SML position.

Rush was right this morning; Lott has become a Democrat!!!

Here's a quick prediction: Lott is forced to step down, or is voted out. Then Lott quits the Senate, and not because he wants to...The Dems start to gloat, then a Dem Senator switches parties re-establishing the soon-to-be staus quo...

"he could jump right back if the price is right"

He does have no principles that he has enough disclipline to adhere to. If he had 100 choices right now, this one, IMHO, would come shortly before harry karey.

The problem is Lott just backed down to the race hustlers. The GOP blew the whole issue.
