Senator Robert Byrd as Confederate Brigadier General Paul J. Semmes who DIED fighting to keep Slavery in America!
A sitting Senator playing a General that fought to keep Slavery in America?
What the? Where's the media? Does he get a pass? Again?
I recently made my movie debut, playing a cameo role as General Paul J. Semmes in the Warner Bros. film, "Gods and Generals." At the invitation of director Ronald Maxwell, I was in this scene with Generals A.P. Hill (Patrick Gorman) and James Longstreet (Bruce Boxleitner). |
|
Now, why would Robert Byrd accept the role of General Paul J. Semmes as his first acting role? Could it be that his ideology mirrors this Confederate General? Hmmmm?

"Rather I should die a thousand times and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds!"

Can you imagine a Republican that had KKK roots playing this role!? If that happened, Hillary would jump on his back and ride him all the way to the White House.

The racial overtones of this go far beyond Lott's gaffe.
I have no problem with disagreeable history being dramatically portrayed. In a movie about the SS, somebody has to play Himmler, and it doesn't make him a Nazi. But Senator Byrd is not a professional actor, and he's not playing a random part, here. There's a significance to the fact that he was chosen for this particular role, and a significance in his agreeing to play it.
The man is an unrepentant cracker. He is the ugly old face of the Democratic Party.

May his association with the Democratic party be long and fruitful.

That wasn't a movie still... That was Sen. Byrd in 1863.But it's in color...oh, wait, maybe his fellow Democracker Ted Turner got ahold of it and colorized it.

Good thing it was a moving picture. The shakey old
bast@#D would ruin a still picture.

Maybe he was chosen for the role because of his accent. I hate to tell you, but this one don't have legs. Keep looking for a lynching in West Virginia during the time that Byrd was a top guy there. Look for ties to his old Klan buddies that continued into the 70s and 80s.
By the way, is the governor of WV a democrat? If so, who cares if Byrd is forced out? Better to keep him as a Klan whipping boy so that the focus isn't just on Lott.

Don't associate the honored memory of our Confederate ancestors with the likes of Bob Byrd!
Dishonoring the past does nothing but discredit the present.

Only one US president was ever photographed in his youth wearing Nazi uniform complete with swastika armband.
Does having acted a role disqualify Ronald Reagan from high office?

Better to keep him as a Klan whipping boy so that the focus isn't just on Lott. But as long as we're keeping him as a whipping boy, why not whip him? That's all I'm doing.
Oh, wait...do the racial connotations of the word "whip" mean that I'm being racially insensitive? Sorry to anyone I offended. :-)
