Al Michaels on Monday Night Football: "It's Clinton-Speak - You Don't Know What to Believe!"
ABC Sports

On last night's Monday Night Football, play-by-play man Al Michaels was chatting with color commentator John Madden about impending coaching changes in the NFL.
At one point, Michaels said: "the way they [team executives and potential new coaches] discuss the situation, it's all obfuscation, Foggy Bottom, Clinton-speak - you don't know what to believe!"

When someone as mainstream as Al Michaels, on a show as mainstream as MNF, can toss off the expression "Clinton-speak," knowing that everyone will understand exactly what he means, and that he will suffer no recriminations for having said it, you know that Clinton's legacy is secure.
Clinton will forever be known as a metaphor for mendaciousness!

Maybe the era of media "Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" regarding Klinton is coming loose at the seams.
We'll be able to tell when and if Al Michaels gets slapped with a 10-yard penalty for his comment most foul.

It would be a 15-yarder and a couple-games suspension. Guess we'll know by Saturday night if Al Michaels doesn't show up at Lambeau Field for the schizophrenic Packers.

I try to throw out a "thank you!" any time I see "loose" used properly in a FR post.
THANK YOU!
Widespread improper use of loose/lose is a pet peeve of mine that almost makes me lose my mind. ;-)
And now back to our regularly scheduled thread.

Yeah, those loosers with poor syntax really tick me off too!
To: governsleastgovernsbest
I wanted to write "loose my mind" just to see how many noticed, but refrained from doing so.
Back on-topic, this *is* a good sign. It'll be a better sign when someone from the news division, as opposed to sports, makes a similar statement. Encouraging nonetheless.

Heheh, you forgot "too" instead of "to" and "to" instead of "too", too.

And during the course of the season, I have distinctly heard Michaels make some favorable George W. Bush comments.

Now if we could only get Al Michaels et al to understand the difference between "route" and "rout".

mendaciousness=mendacity? They both mean the same to me but I'm sure there is some fine distinction. Either one fits the toon perfectly.

If ABC--and the NFL--really wants to improve the TeeVee ratings fer MNF, they need only hire Rush Limbaugh to join Michaels and Madden in '03!!
You heard it here first...MUD
