I hope his daughters grow up understanding that their daddy was a hero who died fighting for his entire American family.

Jeez, it's hard to read that list without choking up a little. The list of homes all across America tells you something about the range of great young people who are in harm's way protecting us.

In addition I find it quite interesting that many on this thread choose to focus on the award and possible/probable error when my intention was to honor the hero. Sad.

Agreed. Bickering over the details only obscures what matters here: that a great American, who gave his life to save his brothers in arms, was honored today.

Personally, I think his actions were worthy of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Most CMOH recipients earned them doing exactly what TSgt. Chapman did: charging enemy positions and drawing fire away from his comrades.

Jesus said: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

The most sincere praise I can give this great American who we have lost is this: I would want him by my side in battle.

Where does anyone see the words Air Force Medal of Honor in your post? Have I stayed on here too long this evening?

Dear Squat:
I appreciate being corrected. However, your post was #42 on the thread. Posts #8,11,22,25,27,& 30 all corrected the error before yours. I explained in posts #23 & 32 that Fox reported it incorrectly. If you are going to give sanctimonious instruction from your elite position of superiority, please read the thread first.

BTW. No need to patronize me about my panties. They never bunch. Leather, don'tcha know.

If you are a "senior officer," then we need to tighten up the curriculum at the War Colleges quick fast and in a hurry.

Have you seen the sworn statements by at least two surviving witnesses to the action? Were you in the battle? How do you know he DESERVES the MOH? Maybe he was recommended for it and the USAF awards board recommended to the CSAF that he get the AFC instead. Medal of Honor recommendations in all services receive expedited treatment. The decision to downgrade is very serious and never done lightly. Furthermore, the AFC is nothing to sniff at. It speaks volumes that there have only been 5 awarded for actions since 1991 (2 to pilots, the other 3 to enlisted Special Operations guys) despite the fact the USAF has been in constant combat since January 17th, 1991.

Additionally, you might need to check with the S1 (that is the guy who handles personnel actions) about awards routing. The only award or decoration Congress approves is the Congressional Gold Medal (which is not awarded for military actions).

The Medal of Honor's approval authority is the President and cannot be delegated (see AR 600-8-22). It is awarded "in the name of Congress" and has taken on the unofficial but well-known and misleading moniker of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

They have this thing called the Internet on computers these days. Check it out. The Congressional Medal of Honor Society, the US Army Center of Military History (which has EVERY citation) and the Legion of Valor are three sites that would be useful. And will give you more info than you could ever want to know.

To all other readers, I would never be this rude to a fellow Freeper except this person is obviously full of crap as to his credentials as a "senior officer."

Who said "Medal of Honor"? The article only says "Air Force Cross."

Or has there been a subsequent edit?
