Washington, D.C. - For 18 years in the House of Representatives, Dick Armey fought tirelessly for lower taxes, less government, and more freedom. Now, he's joining CSE to lead the same political revolution at the grassroots level.
Dick Armey commented, "During my time as Majority Leader on Capitol Hill, I came to recognize that grassroots action is the most important factor to winning at politics. That's what CSE is all about.
"CSE was founded in 1984, the same year I came to Congress. I know CSE and its members well from past campaigns on the flat tax, social security reform, and school choice. In every issue that matters to the U.S. economy, CSE is right there in the fight. I am very excited to be a part of this great organization."
CSE President Paul Beckner said, "On behalf of the 280,000 members of CSE, I'd like to welcome Dick Armey aboard as Co-Chairman. We look forward to his leadership as we work to create an America filled with even more opportunity and prosperity."
The CSE-Armey Agenda for 2003 and Beyond
- Fundamental reform of the tax code, scrapping and replacing it with a tax code that is simple, low, fair and honest.
- Achieving permanent status for the Bush '01 tax cuts-- the death tax repeal, the income tax rate reductions, and the marriage penalty repeal.
- Reforming the Social Security system to include personal retirement accounts.
- Ending lawsuit abuse including medical malpractice reform and federal class action reform.
- Welfare reform to encourage work and responsibility.
- Expanding school choice and competition nationwide.
- Removing barriers to economic prosperity

Wow! Good news for CSE!
To: Humidston
Amen. Bad news for Johnny Edwards.

If it weren't for Armey and his fellow "free trade at all costs" crowd maybe we wouldn't have to worry about a sound economy because tens of thousands of quality jobs would still be in this country instead of China. Same goes for all the surplus Social Security funds that Armey and friends
"borrowed" from to make all those budget deficits look much lower than they actually were. Also, don't forget that he and his alleged fellow conservatives helped save Clinton's presidency on more than one occasion. As far as many people in the N. Texas area are concerned he's a fraud.

Blame the Clinton commerce department for shifting manufacturing from Japan to China. The rest of our post is too full of absurd garbage to bother with.

"Dick Armey to Lead Citizens for a Sound Economy" OMG...Armey's going to continue doing what he was born to do.
VERY good news!

This business of a $17-an-hour American trying to compete with a $1-an-hour Chinese is ultimately crazy and we have no business trying to do that. Let us back away from - renege on - any trade agreement that does not have clear-cut benefits for the American middle class.
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
Tell me what that is bad news for Edwards, please, ma'am.

I must be really confused. I thought I'd read earlier Armey was going to the ACLU, along with Bob Barr.
CSE is a much better fit for Armey. Glad to hear this news.

Exactly correct and these were the arguments against GATT, NAFTA, etc. We have lost whole industries to subsidized or prison labor intensive competitors which has ominous implications for national security. The only reason most of the public is still asleep on this issue is that so much plastic money is available to the consumers. Debt at the fedgov, corporate and personal levels have soared since the passage of these trade agreements.
To: Deb
FYI, Clinton and his commerce dept. still needed the RINO's in Congress like Armey to save NAFTA and GATT when he couldn't even get the full support of his own party. As for the other "absurd garbage" it's a known fact and has been for years that Congress has borrowed from Social Security surpluses to mask the size of the budget deficits. Sorry, but someone who's sacrificed our children's future on the altar of global trade and open borders deserves no accolades.

As far as many people in the N. Texas area are concerned he's a fraud. Most people in the N. Texas area would disagree with you.

Not the one's that are truly informed on many key issues because they're smart enough to know there are a lot of topics not covered in depth by the Dallas Morning News. Heck, the news and general info on Free Republic puts the DMN and most mainstream news sources to shame.

As far as many people in the N. Texas area are concerned he's a fraud. Who? Maybe you and a couple of Democrats.
Armey usually won with 65% of the vote.

Not the one's that are truly informed on many key issues Contrary to your belief, most North Texans have a clear understanding of key issues, and are politically astute to boot.
Anyway (for you), it is time to relax now. Armey is finally out of Congress, and no longer has the authority to make you sleep in blue tents at those darn U.N. camps.
To: american spirit
Armey's on of the best Republicans there is.

('cause he's almost libertarian....)

Sorry, I strongly disagree. Living in N. Texas and monitoring the DMN and most of the inane talkshows there's a pronounced lack of depth in their reporting. What gives you the impression I have something against the UN anyway?
To: sinkspur
That % has more to due with the ineptness of the Dem's in that district and statewide. Anyway, the Armey name sure didn't help his son in his run for Congress did it? He was roundly defeated by a relative no-name. I think that's one of the best indicators of the voters distaste for Dick Armey.
