Rev. Al was interviewed on the Black Entertainment News Program 'Lead Story' about his new book 'Al on America' where he said that black Americans should seek a divorce from the Democratic Party after agreeing with President Bush in the 2002 elections. (and not providing an opposition party)
He commented that his candidacy would be in part to prevent minority voters from becoming a 'scarlett mistress' of the Democratic Party who ask for black votes and give little in return.

I think Rove is rightly concerned about this with a White House meeting about GOP minorites in leadership today with Hastert and Frist.

I think Al was referring to folks 'divorcing' the traditional Democratic Party structure in getting people to vote for him, since he will be a candidate for President on the liberal side.

Extortion alert!

This could benefit Republicans, if they would follow what the President says and volunteer to help at a faith-based charity. If Republicans just stay in their country clubs and hope for minority votes, they will not get many. Why would people who have never met a Republican suddenly decide to trust them?

Anyone have any idea where he got the term "scarlett mistress" from?

Wasn't that an old newspaper term for Thomas Jefferson's servant Sally Hemmings?

Hey, maybe Rev. Al can join the Reform Party! That way he can siphon Democrat votes like ol' Ross siphoned Republican votes in the 90's...

"Why would people who have never met a Republican suddenly decide to trust them?" A better question, IMHO, is "Why the heck shouldn't they?!"

I'm shocked. Did he actually figure it out? Or, is this a scam to get more concessions from the Dems? Kind of a North Korea set up before going to the table.
