I'm more optimistic when I read that there are a lot of pro-lifers among the younger generation. They feel the loss of members of their own generation. It's a big loss.

Our 7-year old son was listening to the news recently and came to ask what abortion was. When I explained it, he couldn't fathom why anyone wouldn't want a baby. He said a baby was a gift from God; why would anyone not want this great gift. Why indeed.

First, the author talks about women not having a chance to talk about their grief or other feelings associated with having an abortion. While she is describing a very real problem, there is a solution. Many places have good crisis pregnancy centers that offer support groups for women who have had abortions. These women come together and talk about their experiences. Many of these centers are Christian-based, and I can imagine that women who are not Christians could be uncomfortable. However, I would still urge any woman who wants to talk about her situation to contact one of these centers. As a man, I could only become involved to a limited extent, but I did some writing for a center in Houston. I know that the ladies there truly care about those who come to them seeking help.

The author says that she sees little to encourage her about the prospects of banning abortion. I agree that the movement has some big problems to overcome before passing effective legislation. I think one of the biggest is separating the goal of punishing those who kill unborn children from other social goals that many in the pro-life movement have. However, I believe that a time will come when a "critical mass" of people suddenly realize that the unborn child is a person. When that happens, many more will come to this realization quickly. As they vote what they have come to realize, the laws will change just as quickly.

"When we consider that women are treated as property, it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit." - Elizabeth Cady Stanton in a letter to Julia Ward Howe, October 16, 1873. Recorded in Howe's diary at Harvard University Library.

It takes great strength to admit that you were wrong; look at how few people can do it, even when the payoff would be high. It takes extraordinary strength to admit that you were wrong over something of this magnitude, where the consequences have been so vile. Miss Mathewes-Green, I salute you.

Says it in a nutshell. I will add that abortion is strongly supported by the guys who think of women as RENTAL property that they can abuse and then just walk away from.

When I worked in the Archives and Rare Books Division of a major medical library, the rare books librarian (certifiable lesbian-feminist nut) put together a rare books display of a lot of what we would call today pro-choice material dating back as far as the 16th century and into the early part of the 19th. Basically, demonstrating that it's always existed. There was a letter from a midwife to her daughter in a manuscript basically telling her daughter to save herself the trouble and forgo the burden of motherhood. There were method books of in-utero-infanticide - and she put them in the display cases. It was just awful.

Articles like this one give one a lot of hope that hearts and minds can be converted. It's very good to see.

Time magazine's RvW anniversary article had the following stat: 53% of women ages 18-39 believe that "abortion is murder." I can't find the article. Anybody else?

It certainly is gratifying to see an Orthodox writing and speaking on this most important violation of human rights.

A question to the Orthodox watchers: In looking at the Greek Orthodox Church website there was absolutely no reference to the March for Life. No words, no proclamations, nothing. Where is the Orthodox Church on abortion publicly? I know that the GOC is honoring Senator Sarbanes who voted for keeping partial birth abortion as a legal option. What gives?
