"In the year 1864, Lucifer together with a large number of demons will be unloosed from hell; they will put an end to faith little by little, even in those dedicated to God. Woe to the Princes of the Church who think only of piling riches to protect their authority and dominate with pride. The Vicar of my Son will suffer a great deal, because for a while the Church will yield to large persecution, a time of darkness, and the Church will witness a frightful crisis....Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the Antichrist. For now is the time of all times, the end of all ends. The Church will be in eclipse, the world will be in dismay....Now is the time; the abyss is opening. Here is the king of kings of darkness, here is the Beast with his subjects, calling himself the savior of the world."...

Instead of being one small tool for women's advancement, abortion opened a chasm, and a lot of unexpected things fell in. It turned out to be an irresistible force, because abortion makes things so much easier for everyone around the pregnant woman. Before Roe, unplanned pregnancy created many problems for many people — the woman's lover, her parents, her siblings, her boss, her landlord, her dean. Abortion changes the picture instantly: Just go get it taken care of, dear, and it will be as if it never happened. Women were expected to do the sensible thing and save everyone else a lot of fuss and bother. Overnight, unplanned pregnancy became her private problem, a burden for her to bear alone. Abortion-rights rhetoric compounded this effect with terms emphasizing her isolation: My body, my rights, my life, my choice. The flip side of all that first-person assertiveness is abandonment. The network of support that once existed had been shattered.

To continue a pregnancy came to look like an insane choice, one that placed an unfair burden on others. Having a baby in less-than-perfect circumstances came to look like a crazy and even selfish whim. A woman in an unplanned pregnancy was not just permitted to have an abortion — she was expected to. And that has made all the difference.

This ought to be required reading for every teenage girl out there being inculcated with the twisted feminazi definition of Independence. If they want examples of "male oppression of women", all they need do is take an honest look at why the majority of abortions take place.

Thanks for posting; this is one of the best essays I've seen on the topic.

In the summer, only a few elderly women go to Mass. The rest work on Sundays all summer long. In the winter, when they don't know what to do, they go to Mass just to make fun of religion. In Lent they go to the butcher shops like dogs.

There have been some who accuse the Greek Archdiocese of being silent on the issue because of the influence of people such as Sarbanes, Dukakis, and Stephanopoulus.

However, the founder of Orthodox Christians for Life is a sub-deacon in the Greek Archdiocese.

It would, of course, be preferable for the bishops to be out in the front along Metropolitan Herman.

I wish it were so as well. Legalized infanticide is such an important issue for Christians that the Church - at the highest levels- - should take a more visible public stand against it. The silence is deafening.

Nice graphic.

Somehow, the Orthodox were last in line of a huge March. Usually, we are about in the middle. Son, Ben said that when he looked back, behind them were only police cars and EMT's.

Over 40 million abortions means a lot of grief.

40 million = a generation lost. When the author is ready retire, she will feel the pinch of those lost lives with far fewer care givers - doctors, nurses, hospice workers. She will struggle to find electricians, plumbers, restaurant wait staff, store employees. Odds are, she will not be forced to retire later in life, as there will be fewer contributions into social security and pension funds.

Those who would have helped her through the senior years were discarded, like old newspapers, with yesterday's trash.
