Kudos to you and your daughter! Hang in there!

My daughter is a born again Christian, conservative, young earth creationist and carries a concealed weapon. She works in biotechnology with agnostics/atheists, liberals, evolutionists who support gun control. LOL! We laugh that she is in the "belly of the beast" - but figure it's God's will.

Jeff, have Kate check out this link, then maybe do an additional Google search on Antonio Gramsci. It was he who laid out the cultural Marxist game plan whose express purpose is to destroy Western civilization. His programme is utterly cynical and life-denying; but it has been embraced by the American Leftist elite. Famously on the Gramscian agenda, promotion of: the "women's movement," abortion on demand, sexual liberation, gay rights, same-sex marriage, the "peace movement," the graduated income tax/death tax, virulent anti-capitalism, hatred of nationalism, contempt for the family, contempt for personal responsibility, etc., etc. Now if there is no Leftist bias in the media, then how come the major media in all formats patently supports each and every of the above items on Gramsci's "wish list?"

Gramsci sought to destroy the values and institutions of Western culture; the same values and institutions what have made America an historically great sociopolitical order. To the extent that editorial boards and academics are obviously "closing ranks" around the Gramscian itemized agenda, how can it be said that there is no "Left-wing" bias?

Precisely.

The easy remedy is to teach your kids how to think critically. Critical thinking protects against the strangulating, tentacular vines of Ivy.

"The easy remedy is to teach your kids how to think critically."

IMHO, that is PART of the solution, but by no means a "remedy"...remember when our parents sent US to college, as innocent skulls full of mush?! What would yer parents have said if you rejected the teachings of yer Lib'ral professors and the Lib'ralProfessor down-graded you for it?! My parents wouldda told me to do what it took to git my grades back up...my kids will be treated differently, starting with my PTA Participation and Alumni Oversight of my alma maters, and continuing through my kids' college educations!! Our job as parents does not end.....EVER!!!

FReegards...MUD

BTW...Could not find anybody named 'liberalprofessor'

BTW2..."Critical thinking protects against the strangulating, tentacular vines of Ivy."

Yep...Collectivist Thought/Ideology is Rationally-Unsupportable!!

At 24 I was just like this kid. I read Chomsky, I read Edward Said, I read Ramsey Clark, I read Jim Hightower... I also read Molly Ivins, Gloria Steinem, Naomi Wolf, Virginia Woolf, Women who RUN with the Wolves (well I read a little of it)...

The Axis of Sanity that saved me were Florence King, Ayn Rand, and Free Republic. Yes really. If you want to save this boy, you can either go the Christian route with C.S. Lewis, or the Objectivist route with Ayn Rand. Rand hit me like a bucket of cold water and the spell was broken. After that it was only a matter of time before I hunted up Milton Friedman, Dinesh D'Souza, David Horowitz, etc... Good luck.

She had the same effect on me and led me to Aristotle and Aquinas, although I now think that she was as mad as a hatter. The Lord can work even through people like Ayn.

he immediately cried foul, citing his belief that he is not a liberal at all? he simply doesn?t know what he thinks

A true definition of well over 50% of people who would be classified as 'liberal' by their actions. (The remainder are just evil anti-Americans)

Reading Herbert Marcuse in college mad me depressed for a year. The failed ideologies of the Left have an inordinate amount of attraction to the professors who came of age in an era of unprecedented criticism of everything American.

More power to the apple of your eye. Best wishes to her and i'm sure she has a thick skin to put up with the invective that'll be hurled against her.

Shields UP!

"So it is reassuring to note that the disease of cultural Marxism is something one can recover from. Horowitz certainly did!"

. . .you are right that it is a 'disease'. . .and bump for David on his overcoming. . .

. . .and there are a number of 'recovering Marxists' out there; David even started a group called 'Second Thoughts' where they can speak freely.

Amazing, what it takes to disengage from these people!

"Horowitz was somehow able to recover from the madness of his radical Yippie years."

. . .something else occured to me, reading 'Radical Son'. . .David had a developed sense of 'conscience' which often made him uncomfortable as he was growing up. . .his conscience is what finally forced his break with the Panther's; that and his honest intellectualism.

. . .a really good Marxist cannot afford a conscience; and it must be educated out of them should it be there.

A good Marxist must be the ultimate 'Utilitarian'; end justifying any means determining their choices.

this same thing happened to my older brother. i told him not to study philosophy. he's very impressionable. now he talks about how all life is sacred and what gives us the right to clear land for our houses. *puke* i think he'll be alright after he gets out of college, though.

it doesn't happen to everyone. my leftist professors have driven me farther right. =)

Regards to you and your daughter. She's got a tough fight ahead, and she's going to have t obe strong and resolute as she stands up against these smug, self-assured marxist monsters.

Hewing t oa 'first principles' based approach is what these disciples of Gramsci hate the most. They absolutel yobhor being called to account on that score. Your daughter must learn to call them on the ad-hominem attacks that'll surely be hurled at her. A wry observation that her opponent has descended into name calling, and is that the best they can do works wonders. Getting them to openly admit and disclose the pedigree of their ideas is also a wonderful tactic. Call them on factual errors, as there will be plenty of those.

Takes a quick and agile mind, but I know that you've raised your daughter well and that she comes from a line of warriors and patriots. I'll be glad to help in any way that I can.

Funny. I loved Aquinas, and I never was able to wade through Rand, but I agree with most of Rand's philosophy.

I actually think Chomsky is valuable--for the far right. His perspective is sometimes so far to the left that it encourages others on that wing to contemplate the evils of government involvement in anything. After all, there has never been an American President Chomsky approved of, ever, to my knowledge. All have been corporate tools. So how long can you politically stand on the left with a guy whose philosophy is that everyone's sold out? It's hard to dance with someone who tells you that the music is always cryptofascist. LOL.

The more you're exposed to government intervention in anything, the less you agree with it in any form, in my experience. That is one public service Numb Chimpsky does provide our youth. That, and GREAT comic relief. I'd love to see him Q&A'd in a public forum on when intervention would be appropriate. Or heckled.

Ah, subtle heckling. One of the best experiences of my life was taking advantage of the Q&A session for Oliver Stone and turning the discussion from his political ramblings to a much more appropriate topic. After being beaten to the mike and forced to listen to a young lefty suck up in question form, my turn came second, and after an appropriate double entendre'd buildup, confessing how I found his career had started at a lofty height, and how pleased I was that he had launched the career of one of Hollywood's finest actors, I snuck it in. I told Stone that I was disappointed that he hadn't, since that first film credit, worked again with the young star that had in fact made the name Oliver Stone synonymous with taut, well-written scripts, and, I wondered:

"Was the reason you haven't worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger since Conan The Barbarian for personal or professional reasons?

His initial jaw drop, and the silence of the crowd, who assumed that Jolly Ollie had always made anarchopolitical 'message' films, was almost enough to make me fall on the floor laughing. What was truly hilarious, though, was that immediately after my question about his work as the co-writer of Conan the Barbarian, the audience came alive, asking myriad Conan questions until I left to drink to Oliver's disappointment at the lack of politically active left-wing youth on campus. My co-conspirators' followup questions,

"Is it true that you met Charlie Sheen for the first time through Heidi Fleiss?"

and

"What is the real meaning of JFK? Tell the truth--wasn't there really a hidden subplot about your relationship with your mother?"

were unnecessary--the lefty windbag was totally gelded for that trip.

They have been given a pamphlet/book and a web site (www.fair.com) to use to prove this thesis, indicating that somehow, because rich people own the media, that they are necessarily pure capitalists and therefore can have no "liberal" bias.

They use this logic to imply that since the media is owned by the right-wing the people who work for it are also right-wingers. You can respond to this by using the following question.

So every person flipping burgers at McDonalds is a registered Republican then?
