The American President
The Coconut Telegraph ^ | January 28, 2003 | Luis Gonzalez

Posted on 01/28/2003 4:24:38 PM PST by Luis Gonzalez

He’s had more reason to fail than any President in modern History, and sometimes, the only thing that surpasses the viciousness of the attacks from the left, is the viciousness of the attacks from the far right.

He is reminded over, and over again that his presidency was a "gift", and the unkind, unflattering comparisons to his father’s failed bid for a second term, more often than not, turn into predictions of failure yet to come. Yet his popularity among Americans is of historical proportions.

He’s been called inept and bumbling, even as he maneuvers his way across the burning embers of American politics with incredible dexterity, and arriving at the least of all expected destinations: victory.

Some call him a globalist, even as he shows contempt for the United Nations by turning his back on treaties that would threaten American sovereignty, while others accuse him of acting unilaterally against enemy nations.

He is openly pro-life in a nation where the murder of unborn babies has been elevated to status of a “right”, and is the sort of Christian who does not profess to be perfect, but rejoices in being forgiven.

He loves family, country and flag, and there’s very little question that the tear in his eye is anything other than a reflection of the emotion in his heart.

He is plain spoken and direct, with a propensity of stumbling over one word or another in a speech. But rather than knocking him down, it seems to endear him to a population that can easily imagine making the very same mistake if they would ever find themselves in a similar situation.

He is Mr. Smith, Kilroy, Shane, and Joe Everyman all rolled into one, the personification of the every day citizen, and while some suggested that he lacked the Beltway savvy to succeed, it was that very thing that attracted so many to him.

He faced the darkest hour in recent American history, and standing on the smoking remains of the Republic, above the fires and destruction, he raised high The Stars and Stripes, making us all believe that our finest hour was yet to come.

He’s confounded pundits, bewildered critics, and bedazzled opponents with a casual, easy charm that more often than not masks a grasp of the issues few believed he could achieve.

George W. Bush represents the triumph of the everyday man.

I support this president because I believe him, and I believe that what he does, he does because his heart tells him that it is the right thing to do for this nation.

And tonight, he’ll stand facing no one but us, because it’s the state of OUR Union that he’ll address. And standing there, he’ll chart a path for this nation in accordance to the only polls that matter to him...his conscience, and his love for this land.

But he won’t stand alone, because I’ll stand with him.

I’m standing with George W. Bush tonight, and I am seeing this fight through with him.

I’m standing with the American President, and I’m asking those who will stand with me, to make your presence known, and let your voices be heard tonight.

Willie, are we going to be a people divided tonight?

Or a nation united in its resolve?

Will you rise above politics, and stand with the president tonight?

Jenny may be cool, but not historically informed. So far I like President Bush and anyone who thinks he is a simpleton is surely a Liberal indulging in wishful thinking. Still and all, "trust no man with that jewel (Liberty)" is as true now as when first spoken in the late eighteenth century.

President Bush is doing well, if he shrinks government and increases real world observance of our Constitutional guarantees.

So far, so good. Little more should ever be said of an elected official.

Grouch.

Teddy Roosevelt certainly possessed some human faults.
But I don't think one can truthfully describe him as a "grouch".
Quite the contrary, he had quite a reputation for his zest for life!

There are times for one such as you to turn off your partisan sniping, and this is it.Don't you find yourself a bit stinky always being a turd in the punchbowl, junior?

Clue: Teddy was a 'pubbie.

Great post Luis ! Bravo !

I will stand up for President George W. Bush. I stood up before and worked to help him get elected and that was the first time I went out and canvassed for a Republican since 1968.

Because he doesn't speak down to anyone and he eschews the trappings of phoney elitism.

Ah, I see.
