An absolutely fabulous, astounding week - watching the Dems implode......"It was a VERY good week!"
one man's opinion

OK, I woke up at 3am this morning, turned on the TV, and after a little channel surfing found the rebroadcast on C-span of Miguel Estrada's confirmation vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee...Twas marvelous, simply marvelous, watching Leahy, Kennedy, and Schumer bloviate. And I realized that over this past week we've seen strong signs of a serious implosion in the Dem party. Just consider....

A week or so ago we were treated to the spectacle of all 6 announced Dem presidential wannabes prostitutiing themselves before NARAL.....and swearing allegiance to positions that a majority of Americans abhor. We got to see Sen Edwards chew gum..( nicorette, perhaps?) and after watching Sharpton and Dean dominate, well..the Dem primaries are gonna be driven soooooo far to the left that the middle ground will be wide open for the GOP...just wait till the Dems filibuster W's first SC nominee...the replay of Kate Michaelman insisting, nay demanding, that EVERY Dem senator filibuster every nominee will be replayed a million times...
Then, of course, we had the SOTU speech, with the pictures of assorted Dems sitting on their hands and contorting themselves in a myriad of facial expressions, before making a bunch of incredibly inane comments to the press.....that's you, Kerry and you, Daschle... Not to forget Gov. Locke's eminently forgettable rejoinder. The overall impression is of a party more and more out of touch with the vast majority of the American electorate.
Then, yesterday on CNN, the little vignette of Bill Clinton addressing the Dem conference on how to plan for victory in the 2004 elections. Yup Bill Clinton. They continue to worship him. He's gonna tell them how to retake the House. That means they've written off any chance of winning the Senate...Remember in 1992, when Bubba was elected, the Dems held huge majorities in the House and the Senate....well, since following Clinton's advice, they've lost both of them, and the Dem numbers continue to shrink. Clinton's continued presence on the national political stage is the best weapon the GOP has going for it in the 2004 elections.
And last, that with which I started...the Estrada hearings....watching Schumer, Kennedy, and Leahy look like they were sucking on rotten eggs.....but was beautiful, really beautiful, was how the GOP responded. Hatch rebutted all the Dems points, but instead of each GOP senator engaging in a lenghty discourse, they simply said nothing, just voted 10-9, to report the nominee out. Basically, it told Leahy that nothing you say or do matters, we're not even gonna waste the time to respond to you....
In 6 more years of a Bush presidency, with an increasing GOP majority in the Senate..we can look for W. to appoint 4, or more, Supreme Court Justices, and completely pack the lower courts. Estrada is what, 41...man..that's 35 years more of him on the Supreme Court....
So, paraphrasing Frank Sinatra.."It was a very good week!!"
An aside, a bonus, for all you fellow political junkies:
I'd like to throw out a couple of long-term, long shot possibilities and prognostications for your consideration, derision (?) and comments..
1. 2006 GOP candidate for California Governor.....newly appointed LAPD police chief Bill Bratton...This, IMHO, is a no brainer. If Bratton plays it right...the nomination, and the election, are there for the taking. California's gonna be a mess for the next 4 years, and it's been completely under Dem control. It's their problem. Bratton's always wanted a bigger stage..that's why Rudy "fired" him in NYC. Crime in LA is out of control. If Bratton can fix it, he'll be invincible....and, and a bonus Rudy will campaign for him. This is why Bratton took the job in the first place.....you heard it hear folks...
2. OK..now a really long shot....the 2008 GOP presidential nominee..ta da..newly elected MD governor Bob Erhlich..he's perfectly positioned. He's got a chance to turn MD around, and he's got the will, and the balls, to do it...he's got conservative credentials, and he's right on all the key issues....he's photogenic, a great campaigner...and can obviously attract Dems and independents...so, how does it happen?...well, he does a great job as governor in MD, wins re-election in 2006 by a landslide. After the 2006 midterm congressional elections, when the GOP has increased its majority in both houses, Cheney decides to resign. President Bush has to choose a VP...he can basically annoint his successor. After the 2004 Dem debacle..which reaffirms the difficulty a senator faces in trying to win the WH...the GOP is looking for a Governor as a candidate...Jeb is out, for obvious dynastic reasons..it just wouldn't sit right with a lot of people...so then, who?...or rather, who better than Erhlich?. So, he's confirmed as VP and in 2008, wins election....and remember, when Erhlich resigns as MD governor, the Lt. Gov..who just happens to be black...succeeds....yup....endless possibilities...

I would expect more weeks like those that just passed.
Their moronic leadership is clueless and setting the entire party to become toast.
Three cheers for the dumb-o-crat clueless leadership, keep up the great work.

Minnesota has a great, young (42 years old), conservative GOP governor! His name is Tim Pawlenty. He is truly the first genuine conservative we've ever elected, and he's photogenic and a good speaker too. I think he will go a long way if he can continue to generate a true sense of cutting spending in Minnesota and keeping the tax rates down. Go Tim!

Concur, most happily.....what was really gratifying about the Estrada hearings is that I get the sense that post Lott, the GOP has learned how to play hardball, and they're just gonna steamroll the Dems.....

Agree...Minn is become more conservative, more GOP, especially in the suburbs....the DFL party is a shadow of itself......BTW, what do you make of Coleman's recent outburst....throwing in with the GO moderates and queastioning the wisdom of ending the dividend tax....are his Dem roots showing?

I've been noticing Coleman being a bit wishy washy on things to start...
He better get his head out of his (your choice) and start realizing that Wellstone Democrats didn't vote for him REPUBLICANS did.

It's as good as any and a heck of a lot better than what we offered up before. Riordan and Simon were the best we could offer up? No wonder the left has such a stanglehold on our politics.
I mean Boxer and Feinstein have been around forever -- why in the world can't we pry their ugly liberal butts out of the chairs.
I really feel like the leadership has given up California and left us conservatives to twist in the wind.
I would run for office myself but I am a person of bad character and would be of no help ;)

Very astute observations. You mentioned several scenarios that I had not considered like Bratton in California, and Erhlich in Maryland. As for your other ideas, I have thought the same thing. Maybe that’s because we both signed up for Freerepublic in May of ’98. I’m just kidding of course, and my advice to the Dems is to listen to everything Clinton tells you. Please put me on your ping list.

It's really amazing watching the Dems fawn over Bubba, and follow him over the cliff like lemmings...and they'll continue to do so....I remember when Harold Ford was on TV, during his quickie run for House minority leader...he said that "more than 50% of the Dems now in Congress had NEVER served in the majority"...that's a tellign comment.....their failure is becoming ingrained, institutionalized.....remember when the Dems ran the HOuse for ,w hat was it 30 years..and had 100 + majorities.....and Charlie Halleck was the minority leader..

What is really sad is I am ugly enough for that, too! Thank goodness my wife doesn't agree with me, though.

It ain't over yet. The demonRATs are going to filibuster Estrada on the Senate floor. I just hope that the Republicans have the balls to make the demonRATs do a real filibuster and not what has passed as a filibuster for the last several years. Make them hold the floor and yap about nothing for hours or days on end and as soon as they drop then vote.

Nope - he's already become pretty much of a laughingstock in Southern California.
