A fellow on CBS said that during launch, a piece of insullation came off of the external tank and hit the leading edge of the shuttle's wing....

NO... something occurred at 200,000 feet.

They need to see if they can locate the astronauts... I don't know if there's a chance of them surviving... they're going so fast that even if they can get out... they're still going 12,000 miles per hour.

Not good.

Normally we hear the booms here as it passes over. I didn't hear it this time but all my birds flipped out at the same time and started flying around the house- even the one with clipped wings. Not sure if they heard something.

That's not funny A$$HOLE!

C-band radar contact lost at 207,000 ft.

They're all dead, IMO.

Other threads pulled..checking in here.

So far no reports of impact or debries across the glide path.

It may have broken up on re-entry OR bounced back up OR stayed high and overshot into the ocean. Reaching for hope here.

PRAYERS!

I too remember the Challenger incident. One of the worst days in American history.

God help the brave astronauts.

We live to the north of Dallas, they were headed south, perhaps southeast.
