Rest in peace, Shuttle Columbia victims...
To: MeeknMing
They weren't victims.
They are heros.

Carry it on:
In the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Lift your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? He who brings out the starry hosts one by one and calls them each by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing."
The same Creator who names the stars also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today. The crew of the shuttle Columbia did not return safely to Earth; yet we can pray that all are safely home.
May God bless the grieving families, and may God continue to bless America.

For some reason, this one doesn't hurt me as much as the Challenger. Maybe it's because I'm older. Maybe it's because I've changed and become a worse person. Maybe it's because of 9/11.
I'm not sure why it is, but maybe I'll be able to determine this better in coming days. All I know now is that I deeply regret what happened, but it's not affecting me like the earlier incident.

This is going to sound crass (it isn't meant to be), but I heard a couple of fascinating anecdotes today from former mission controllers, etc. One of them said that some administrations actually prepared a "canned speech" to be used in the event one of the space missions went bad. This practice supposedly started with President Nixon before the first moon launch in 1969 -- in case something went wrong, he would have been ready to address the nation on short notice.
<p.
I actually wondered if this was the case today, since I was surprised that President Bush did not elaborate more on the fact that there was an Israeli on this mission and extend the nation's sympathies to Israel as well.

I understand exactly how you feel. I think it is because I speculated back in 1986 that something of that magnitude would certainly happen again sometime.
Oddly enough, I'm a little surprised the U.S. space program didn't have more re-entry disasters early on -- I thought that would be the most dangerous part of any mission.
To: Dog Gone
It's because we are numb with the pain of the past ten years.

It's ironic that JFK ended his life in Dallas and these brave people ended their lives over Dallas.

A Memorial I did this morning in Photoshop.
I am using this for my desktop. Feel free to use it or post
it anywhere you like.
The Background was taken by Digital Camera from this
shuttle mission.
The rest of the pics are from Nasa's website.
There is a larger version on my website here:

I've been lurking over in the "enemy" camp. I can not believe the absolute evil hatred these "people" have for President Bush and the Bible.

Let's not forget our sympathetic Iraqi friends, who, according to Fox, said: "We are happy the Columbia broke up - God is punishing the Americans for their encroachment on Iraq." And also, (paraphrasing) - glad the Israeli is dead, too, because he helped bomb an Iraqi weapons compound in the past. Never forget - Islam is the religion of peace. Prayers for the astronauts and their families. Moe

Oh, I have slipped the surly bounds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a thousand things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there,
I've chased the shouting wind along , and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
HIGH FLIGHT
