WASHINGTON, D.C. - Yielding to studies conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc. (PPFA), has discontinued production of condoms lubricated with Nonoxynol-9 (N-9).

Both the WHO and CDC have concluded that N-9 does not prevent sexually transmitted diseases, despite that fact that countless people were once assured that the chemical would do so.

WHO and CDC have reported that N-9 offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases, including the virus that leads to AIDS.

In fact, when used during anal sex and very frequent vaginal intercourse, N-9 can cause small lesions that increase the risk of contracting a disease.

Despite these facts, PPFA Inc., will distribute the remainder of the N-9 condoms currently in its inventory.

"Latex condoms are the best product for preventing sexually transmitted infections," said PPFA Inc., Vice President of Medical Affairs Vanessa Cullins, MD, MPH. "Our goal is to ensure that every condom we produce or provide will be appropriate for every use and for use by every person."

"Not only was Planned Parenthood slow to act on studies that showed the dangers of N-9, ostensibly for financial reasons, it is also guilty of giving young people just one more un-kept promise," said Douglas R. Scott, president of Life Decisions International.

"People were assured that N-9 was a wonderful thing. Only God knows how many lives the chemical has adversely impacted. Only God knows how many lives have been lost because of the chemical. Yet Planned Parenthood will dismiss these tragic consequences as 'just another mistake.'"

Too bad most American kids won't hear this in their government school sex-ed courses. They'll probably hear that condoms are like a magic shield that protects you from the consequences of irresonsible sex.

Well that's just horse hockey. When I was a kid I thought it was cool to pee outside while I had an erection. If I stood in the sun just right, it created a really neat rainbow.

Actually, this study doesn't have anything to do with the usefeulness of condoms- it is solely related to the use of this specific spermicide and does not effect condom usage in general.

Maybe that's because we already know that condoms don't protect against some sexually contracted diseases....but, then I don't think too many schools are teaching that either.

The CDC has had proof for more than a decade that aids can be transmitted via the hair follicles of the public area when fluid from an infected person enters the other person's body down the follicular hair shaft. Studies of soldiers in Europe, specifically in Germany, who contracted HIV through ONLY hetero-sexual intercourse gave the CDC the clues long ago. That they've chosen to cover these facts and deny the truth that condoms do little to prevent the condom user from contracting aids in any sort of intercourse tells us much about the PC corrosion of the CDC's original mandate to health.

But it's just like the rest of the issue. Condoms are sketchy when it comes to AIDS, and basically useless when it comes to other STDs. Kids all over the country are suffering from gonorrhea, and there are even commercials on TV for genital herpes therapies.

Take a look at this new book.

That's like saying we have some tainted meat, but it's still in our inventory, so we'll continue to sell it. Or more to the point: we know that this vaccine causes bad reactions in some because of the thymerisol, but we'll continue to use them because we haven't run out yet. Or, we know that we have a cancer causing virus (SV-40)in the Salk polio vaccine, but we won't let the public know, and just continue using them until we run out.

And where is the FDA?

Nowhere, because PP is in bed with the govt. This is the new public/private partnership.

Less Common HPV Types Associated With Cervical Cancer Risk, Study Says

http://www.kaisernetwork.org/daily_reports/rep_repro.cfm#15898

In addition to human papillomavirus types 16 and 18, 13 other HPV types should also be considered carcinogenic and three other HPV types should be considered "probably carcinogenic," according to a study published in today's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Although previous studies have concluded that HPV types 16 and 18 can cause cervical cancer, the risk of cervical cancer associated with other types of HPV had not been determined.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer Multicenter Cervical Cancer Study Group conducted 11 studies from 1985 to 1997 in nine countries, each of which had wide-ranging cervical cancer incidence rates.

Participants completed risk factor surveys and underwent a pelvic exam that included two cervical scrapings for cytologic study and detection of HPV DNA. Researchers found HPV DNA in 1,739 of the 1,918 patients with cervical cancer, compared to 259 of the 1,928 in the control group.

The researchers found that almost 92% of those with HPV were infected with just one type of HPV, while 8% had more than one type; HPV type 16 was the most common.

In addition, researchers found that cervical cancer is linked to 30 types of HPV, and the link with the less common types is just as strong as the link with HPV types 16 and 18.

Researchers categorized 15 HPV types as high-risk: 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 68, 73, and 82; three types of HPV as "probable" high-risk: 26, 53, and 66; and 12 types as low-risk for cervical cancer: 6, 11, 40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 61, 70, 72, 81 and CP6108.

According to the study authors, the results indicate that testing for groups of high-risk HPV types, as opposed to testing for specific types of HPV, is "sufficient" and that "screening 'cocktails'" for high-risk HPV types could be altered based on the results of the study (Munoz et al., NEJM, 2/6).

Reaction

In an accompanying NEJM perspective piece, Dr. Thomas Wright of Columbia University and Dr. Mark Schiffman of the National Cancer Institute write that the risk of cervical cancer linked with high-risk HPV is "even higher than the risk of lung cancer with smoking."

They add that HPV DNA testing should be included in primary screening, but that that change -- "regardless of how it is implemented" -- will ultimately "infor[m] millions of women with normal Papanicolaou tests that they are at increased risk for cervical cancer."

They add, "The challenge is to develop clinical strategies that allow us to reap the benefits of HPV DNA testing without unduly alarming or overtreating large numbers of women." The doctors conclude, "Achievement of this balance is likely to require a considerable educational effort on the part of clinicians and health educators" across the country (Wright/Schiffman, NEJM, 2/6).

AFTER MASSIVE INCREASE IN CONDOM USE AIDS CONTINUES TO RAVAGE SOUTH AFRICA

http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2002/dec/02120604.html

JOHANNESBURG, December 6, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A new study has indicated that over the past four years South Africa has seen a revolution in condom use. Dr Olive Shisana, principal investigator for the study said, "For example, for women aged 15-49, condom use at last sexual intercourse has more than tripled, from 8% in 1998 to 28.6% in the present study, and amongst women aged 20-24 it has increased from 14.4% to 47%." However, despite the condom surge, AIDS infection has surged, leaving the country with an AIDS epidemic.

The study estimates the overall HIV prevalence in the South African population (over the age of two) to be 11.4%. HIV prevalence among those aged 15-49 was 15.6%. The survey found that 5.6 percent of children ages 2 to 14 were HIV-positive and that 13 percent of children in this age bracket had lost one or both of their parents to AIDS.

In sharp contrast, Uganda has had singular success in combating the deadly virus with very little reliance on condoms. A recent Harvard study found that from the late 1980s to 2001, the number of pregnant women infected with HIV in Uganda dropped from 21.2 percent to 6.2 percent due to promotion of abstinence before marriage and fidelity in marriage.
