No sooner had I walked backstage at Madison Square Garden yesterday when I was brushed aside by a beautifully groomed, purebred bitch who possessed the manners of a mongrel.

She was a dog owner.

"A- -hole!" the high-strung biped ranted, just loud enough to drive a sensitive cocker spaniel to the kibble.

I've never seen a Newfie that well groomed in my life.

All the ones I know look like a collection of knitting mistakes.

Pretty rarified heights up there at Westminster.

Beautiful animal. I head a Kerry Blue terrier won the terrier class. Do you know which dogs won the other two classes judged last night? I think they were non-sporting and maybe toy group.

I'm rooting for the Newfie. Well, unless the Lab wins the Sporting Group.

Although, the Pekinese did look good. And that poodle (it's called a field cut) was okay.

Carlotta Dennie of Staten Island took a bite of a hot dog, then held up her face to share a bite with her little papillon, Maverick. He lapped lustily at her mouth.

Someone needs to tell these "people" that they're just DOGS!!!

Yikes! Standard poodle. The way they 'pouf' them and shave them for show leaves me cold. If I were the dog, I'd feel naked.

I like Kerry Blue terriers, in fact I like most terriers. But why does it seem that most of the show winners are either Kerry Blue terriers, Poodles, or Russian Wolf Hounds? A bunch of dog raciests? Or just a little gay?

Everbody says that. The cut used for show is the field cut. Poodles were developed as water retreivers. They retrieved birds and water fowl. That cut is designed to keep the joints warm in cold water.

They're not Labs, developed for water retrieving, but fishing nets not game, where part of the purpose of the coast was for the water to just cascade off.

Unfortunately, many dog breeds in these shows are freaks bred for appearances rather than for the qualities that made dogs man's best friend. For instance, what can you do with the Cocker Spaniels in these shows besides show them? I'll take a dog without the right papers over a mutant with a wierd haircut any day.

Uh...when did they separate and from what? As far as I know Sheperding/Herding have always been separate.
