I wonder if the RATS will want to still be filibustering when the bombs drop.

I am embarrased that I do not know how filibisters work, from a parliamentary point of view.

Could someone who knows give me a short explanation? I know it is a tactic used to prevent action being taken, but would love to know what "tricks" to watch for.

And, how many of you will be watching it all the way thru?

Thank you for starting this thread. The Democrats in the Senate are no longer pretending to follow basic rules of decency.

Pres. Bush on Miguel Estrada late this afternoon:  "A handful of Democrats in the Senate are playing politics with his nomination and it's shameful politics." "I call upon fair play in the Senate."

Sen. Orrin Hatch, asked for an additional six hours of divided debate on Miguel Estrada this afternoon, proceeding directly to a vote, Sen. Dodd objects,  eight, objection, 10, objection, 20 additional hours - up to 50 hours, Chris Dodd objects to every requests.

"The Senator is telling me that no matter what I offer he will object?"

"It's apparent now that we're in the middle of a filibuster."  Sen. Orrin Hatch

Dodd and the rest have no reason to deny Miguel this confirmation. None. All their talk is hot air, BS, smear, slander, sham, vain, unworthy, dishonorable, unaccountable, sleazy, bearing false witness, lies.

Dodd now making the argument that Estrada has no judicial experience. I never heard that argument made before for nominees to a circuit court. I will bet you plenty of DemocRAT appointees to the circuit courts had no prior judicial experience.

If I remember my government class correctly (It's been thirty+ years) The party that is filibustering yields the floor only to members of their own party. Not allowing those who might wish to close the filebuster to talk. They may read the phone book, previous speeches, anything to keep the vote from taking place.

The RATS are making minorities sit in the back of the bus again.

Exactly. If the tables were turned you can bet the media would be playing up the minority issue. But, nooooo. Their precious RATs are incapable of racism.

Do the Dems realize how much money will be raised by the National Republican Senatorial Committee if they hold a filibuster against Estrada? I bet the PayPal at nrsc.org is going crazy right about now.

The US is in one war and about to begin another and all the Dems can do is waste time filibustering the first Hispanic nominee to the DC Circuit Court. I can't wait to see Gasbag Kennedy complaining again about Estrada's "hot Latin temper!"

Democrats step in it yet again... HA!

When did the burden of proof shift to the nominee?

The same time the burden of proof shifted to the UN weapons inspectors. Gotta love liberals.

The demorats won't want it to appear they are shutting down the Senate, so the GOP must hammer it home that that is what they are doing. The call should be look what the democrats are all about......shutting down the govt and nothing more, no ideas no nothing just rats!

Do not allow them to move on to any other agenda. Shut the govt down like the rats want and the American people will see just who stands in the way of this country. Democrats that is who.

This is not about Democrats exhibiting racist characteristics. This filibuster is about deep ideological differences between the Left and the Right. Don't provide the Left ammunition to hurl your way when, in the future, you find yourself opposing a minority nominee because you are opposed to them on ideological grounds.

In this case, the RATs are objecting to Estrada not because they can demonstrate he has any views they regard as dangerous, but in a sense because they can't, because he lacks a paper trail.

The RATS have always stood in the way, all the while pretending not to and blaming the Republicans. They'd sell their mother's soul to get their way.
