To say that Islamic leaders NEED to condemn terrorists implies that they share culpability with them in their acts, which they don't. When the most recognized Islamic on the planet calls for murder in the name of Islam, they certainly do have a responsibility to immediately rebuke that call for murder. To not do so is to silently agree with his call. To agree with his call is to share his culpability.

mrpiedlourd signed up 2003-02-12. And it's only 8:30pm Eastern time in the US. Does that indicate he signed up from a time zone quite a bit to the east? Like maybe the Middle East?

THANK YOU
Finally one level-headed reply conspicuously lacking in insults and generalizations.
You are dead-on correct. A mysterious almost Eastern religion isn't going to get media attention (and therefore American attention) unless it does something Americans care about: kill someone or blow something up. What news network is going to televise Islamic charities in action or Muslim peace rallies? It isn't what bigoted people want to see or hear and it doesn't garner ratings.
And yes, they are fundamentally peaceful, despite the jeers of other posters. Islam MEANS 'peace' or 'submission'. Just follow the links I posted to learn just a bare minimum about it.

The time zone fits well with the lack of "sandwich materials".

Islam MEANS 'peace' or 'submission'In American English, 'peace' is a very different thing than 'submission'. And many Americans will go to war before they 'submit' to Islam.

I look forward to having my picture taken in historic Bhagdad after the occupation.
I've told friends that one sign that Saddam is both an idiot AND evil is that
he hasn't thrown open the gates of Baghdad (and Iraq)...and turned it into
a wintertime destination for all the "Desert Storm" veterans.
If he'd done that and "made nice" his country would be overflowing during the winter
months with US, UK, and other alliance troops showing the wife and kids the scene of his
daring during Desert Storm.
Imagine some Iraquis becoming the equivalent of millionaires as they have
US dollars, Euros, and the like thrown at them as they give camel rides or work as
skycaps at Baghdad International Airport.
Oh well, IIRC, The Book says something like "where there is no vision, the people perish".
Fits an idiot (but a tough coot) like Saddam to a "T".

Has it occured to any of you that Muslim leaders have no more responsibility to condemn a (according to the US) insane, evil megalomaniac acting the name of a religion than the Pope has to condemn the IRA for acting in the name of Catholicism, or any other religious leader has? The bishops of Ireland have roundly condemned the IRA. IRA members are considered to be automatically excommunicated. Not that it does a lot of good, because in general the IRA is "Catholic in name only" and mostly Communist-terrorist in orientation, but still.
Do a little googling on Islam + human rights violations and then come back and tell us what a "religion of peace" it is.

And yes, they are fundamentally peaceful, despite the jeers of other posters. Islam MEANS 'peace' or 'submission'.What may be true of most Mulims is not true of their religion or its scriptures. Peaceable Muslims are peaceable despite their religion--not because of it.

Exactly. Submission, to them means the submission of all other religions and cultures to theirs!!!! Intersting how they try to twist the language so they appear to be benign...

Not to be a nitpicker, but isn't that tomorrow? The islamofacists were doing so badly that we gave them a day's head start.
We might have to extend that to a week or even a fortnight.
