Missile Launchers Positioned in D.C. Updated: Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 - 12:10 PM EST.

WASHINGTON - An increased level of protection for the region means you'll see missile launchers around the District to guard against the possibility of an air attack.
Shortly after the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the federal government surveyed the sorts of air defense systems available from a variety of agencies - for use here, or elsewhere in the country. The government then conducted experiments to determine how they could best work in concert with one another.
The missile launchers that can be seen from the South Capitol Street bridge are the result of the government's planning efforts.
The protection measures would include Customs Service aircraft flying high, keeping track of air traffic over the metro area, Air National Guard fighter jets patrolling above and Army radar systems positioned alongside Avenger air defense missile systems mounted on HumVees.
The government put these measures in place during President Bush's January State of the Union message, then pulled them back. They went back into place when officials determined there was an increased likelihood for terrorist attacks and increased the nation's Homeland Security alert status from yellow to orange.
Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said the latest terrorism alert represented "the most significant" such warning since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
On the five-color alert scale, red is the highest, but no such terrorist warning level has yet been issued.
Just prepared for anything, eh?
The problem with the government telling us everything they know is that they would also be telling the terrorists what they know -- best to let the terrorists guess. The government has told us that we need to prepare. We have been given the instructions through government agencies.
I will be praying for those who are on the front lines of this war both here and abroad. I'm praying for our troops so hard -- they face challenges...
May God watch over us all and protect us from those who wish to destroy us and our way of life.

Maybe MacGyver should be the head of Homeland Security.
Have faith. We are a strong people. This country has gone through great struggles before. I live and work in the DC area. We will go on working and living as normally as we possibly can under the circumstances. I refuse to cower to those animals. We have made plans as a family on what we will do when the inevitable occurs. We are a family of faith -- we know this time on earth is short and that no one will get out of life alive -- death will come to us all whether tomorrow or 50 years from now. In the meantime, we plan on l i v i n g ! ! ! !
Stay armed. Stay safe everyone.
I just said gasoline because I've done it before, it was a rusty can with flakes, so I filtered it with a coffee filter, worked great. It was after a hurricane and I was filling the gas tank on my generator. The point is you can use them for most anything.
BTW, what thickness plastic sheeting do you recommend?
What self-respecting American male dosen't already have duct tape and plastic on hand? If you can't fix it with duct tape it can't be fixed.
