Suddenly there will be a deadly quiet as internal-combustion engines shut down never to be restarted. No Iraqis will suffer any harm they will simply be thrust back in time to an era where electricity and the electronics it made possible were non-existent. EXTEND THIS TO THE REALM OF ALL OF OUR ENEMIES.... Descend Arabia into the Dark Ages.
IF WE DON'T DO IT TO THEM, THEY WILL DO IT TO US!!!!

It would be heck on the power grid.

"I think a warhead would be fairly easy to shield from an e-bomb..."
The warhead would be easy to shield but its telemetry package would not be. If these e-bombs were actually proven to work in a battlefield situation we might be able to disable North Korea's entire arsenal using such weapons.

Hmmm..
Let us suppose for a moment this actually works (I strongly suspect it's a load of crap). The main people it will actually affect will be civilians. Imagine the anti-US propaganda field day CNN would have showing pictures of destroyed hospital equipment, pacemakers etc, no reticulated water due to the electronic destruction of pumping stations and so on..
The tanks with their diesel engines will be unaffected. How is it going to destroy field artilery, AK-47s, mortars etc?
It's far more likely to damage our equipment than theirs.
That's of course if it works. Which it doesn't.

Wouldn't an enfield be simpler and more fun?

I have a HERF gun built from old microwave oven parts and some 800V electrolytic capacitors that I hope to mount in my old '69 Chysler in the spring.
The idea is to nuke stereos playing loud Rap and/or the cars playing it. I'll be interested in hearing how THAT turns out. <|:/~

Look at the bright side, a Free and Democratic Iraq will also be the first nation to completely embrace HD TV!

There was a very stupid movie called "Ocean's Eleven" which I suffered through for biological reasons (she wanted to see it, I wanted to see her), Was she a fan of George Clooney or Brad Pitt or Matt Damon?

So does this mean we can use this weapon to intercept nuclear missles flyin' high???

This fantasy scenario assumes Iraq has no knowledge of Faraday shields and optical coupling of systemsI remember a discussion last year concerning the Chicoms installing a fiber optic system for the Iraqis. I mentioned that it was probably to counter EMP.
Consensus ( which I didn't buy) was that the electronics that interfaced w/ the fiber would fry.
I have thought about constructing a farady cage for a few items. Last night I was thinking of something to use in an emergency. I came up with the idea that an unplugged microwave oven might do the trick. What you think?

I was involved in a DARPA project to make an electric vehicle. The motor controllers were coordinated with Ethernet. We had to place the electronics in a Faraday shield and connect the Ethernet via fiber optics. Why? The vehicle was a platform for a railgun with a monster pulse forming network.
If you build the cage right, it will do the job. The microwave cavity might not get the job done unless you pull the magnetron and cover the hole with a fine mesh. The doors are usually sealed with a conductive gasket. There may be other leakage paths around the "stirring" motor and fans.

The door seal is what gave me the idea. Thanks for the info.
