SUPPORT OUR TROOPS - Patriots Rally for America IV - Saturday, March 1, 2003, Washington, D.C.
DC Chapter of Free Republic ^ | February 18, 2003 | Angelwood and Kristinn

Posted on 02/18/2003 8:35:34 PM PST by Angelwood

This is important. Drop what you’re doing. Pack the car, get on a plane, a train, a bus or start walking. Our troops need your support right now! They’re laying it on the line for us overseas and all they are seeing in the media is hundreds of thousands of anti-war/anti-American demonstrators marching in our streets.

As evidenced by this article Anti-war Protests Anger U.S. Troops Inside Kuwait those demonstrations are starting to affect morale. You can do something about that, but it will take time, effort and sacrifice -- a modest sacrifice compared to our men and women in uniform waiting for the the word to take out Saddam and his tyrannical terrorist regime.

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic urges all FReepers and lurkers in good standing, as well as their friends and families, veterans and their friends and families and all others who want to stand up for America and support our troops to join us in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 1, 2003 for the Patriots Rally for America IV from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m at the outdoor Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument.

As the United States prepares to take the next step in the war on terrorism with probable action in Iraq, it is imperative that we get out and show support for our troops, our Commander-in-Chief and all that’s good about America.

Our troops are there to give their lives if necessary in order to prevent another 9-11 from happening to us. Now more than ever, they need to see your support back home. Please don’t let them down.

We are asking you to bring large American and Gadsden flags. Also, signs bearing messages supporting America, our troops, our Commander-in-Chief and the war on terrorism.

That same day, anti-American leftists will be holding an "anti-war" rally and march in D.C. The "anti-war" rally, organized by IAC-A.N.S.W.E.R. , a front group for the communist World Workers Party, will be held on the Mall near the Capitol Building between 3rd Street and 7th Street, N.W. The organizers have permitted other sites as staging areas for many in their group to assemble and then march to the main event. Some of these staging areas include: Constitution Gardens by the Vietnam War Memorial, the Northeast quadrant of the Washington Monument, and Freedom Plaza at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.

Another group has plans to assemble in the DuPont Circle area and march to Constitution Avenue, N.W. between 17th and 23rd Streets.

We do not expect any trouble from those groups. Law enforcement officers will be everywhere to keep the peace and ensure that everyone’s rights are respected.

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

When: Saturday, March 1, 2003 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., rain or shine.

Where: The Sylvan Theater, located on the south side of the Washington Monument grounds at Independence Avenue and 15th Street, S.W.

Brrrrr !

We (FreetheHostages, Kristinn, our Loosianna friend and me) just finished leafleting the college basketball (Georgetown) game at the MCI Center. It was fun to watch the surprised looks on folks' faces when it finally registered that we were supporting the troops!

That made standing out in the cold tonight worth it. We handed out lots more handbills, and some of the folks asked for more to give their friends.

Now I'm going to have a cup of cocoa. Brrrrr....

Tomorrow, another hockey game at MCI Center, IIRC. And another idea for me and my friend to do during the day. Will report back tomorrow.

From what I was told via email, we may be getting quite a contingent from Young americans for Freedom. As an old YAFer, I am happy to hear that.

Ain't that a fact. A couple of times people scowled at me and then did a double take when I repeated "SUPPORT our troops," and said "OH!! I thought . . . ." Stuff like that. They just assumed that anyone handing out leaflets in the city had to be a leftist. BTW, when I was left alone on duty outside one of the doors, this total leftist girl came up and used all this invective and indecent language. I didn't try to engage her but she stalked me for like 5 minutes. I'm pretty sure that she was with the Peace Movement. She had that violent, unwashed look about her. Whatever. She just blocked my access to a few people.

Cocoa well-earned, tgslTakoma -- and a tip of the Patriot's Tricorn to you and the troops! Remember the saying, 'For want of a nail, the Kingdom was lost?' The obverse of that is 'One act by one person can inspire and impassion a nation.' Thanks for the update!

Come on folks, bail me out here... :-)

"There were 5,000 people at the anti-american rally in Washington DC. Isn't there any one in Washington DC that wants to refute the accusation that N. Korea and Viet nam dictatorships are better than American constitution? Isn't there anyone who wants to show thier grandchildren they care about their future?"

Beck's Rally for America message board needs you Capitol Freepers to teach them a thing or two. Please monitor and post: http://freedom.visualdegradation.com/viewtopic.php?t=89

I'm trying to visualize. Maybe I'd better not. I will be one of the first six on Thursday!

Independence flows West. Nearest Metro is the Smitsonian on the Red Line 3 blocks East of Independence and 15th. Best bet is 14th Street two way traffic 395 dumps you onto thw 14th Street bridge from the South. Parking on 13th south of Independence.

You're on. 4 places are taken. Only 2 "FreeChineseDinner" leafletting opportunities available.

The deal: you show up at 6:15 p.m. and help to leaflet Thursday's hockey game at the MCI Center. then you get a free dinner at a nearby Chinese restaurant after freezing your butt off in the cold Thursday night.

Saturday's still predicted to be warm, 45 degrees. Weather won't be an issue then.

Directions: just southeast of the Monument, between the Monument and the Holocaust museum. Closest Metro stop: Smithsonian, on Independence (then just walk a couple of blocks west).

Parking: tricky, tricky, but best show is probably along Independence, east of 14th Street.

Damn you're right. I'm finding all these people from nearby cities, like Philly, too, who are saying "Gee, I wish there was a support-our-troops rally I could attend." Yikes, we need to reach out to those people pronto!! As I think you'll see, I'm all about doing that on the site right now.

The Sylvan Theater is located at the lower right in the above image, among the trees on the monument grounds. The road running from the top of the image to the bottom, on the right of the Monument is 15th Street. No parking along there. If you look in the very bottom right corner of the image you will see a road disappearing off the image... that is Independence Ave. You may find parking along there. Otherwise you may find parking along Constitution Ave, which runs parallel to and north of Independence Ave. You may also find parking on 15th Street north of Constitution Ave intersection.

If you drive in and park, you may have a several block (possibly more) walk. If you take the Metro in to the Smithsonian stop, you will walk approx. 2-3 blocks.

I hope this is helpful.
