What will they say when the dungeons are opened?

What will they say when the dungeons are opened?

written by Mitchell Solomon

As the clock ticks down to what appears to be an inevitable military take down of the Iraqi regime the worldly sophisticates in France and Germany, just to name two, have decided that under no circumstances can there be any justification for an American led attack on Saddam and his cruel henchmen. Leave aside for the moment the utter hypocrisy of France, who thinks nothing of sending it’s army and mercenaries into African countries without even as much as notice to their beloved United Nations, or the memory-deficient Germans, who obviously have forgotten the fact that Americans liberated them from some of the last century’s worst tyranny and rebuilt their nation, while in all honesty they had every right to leave them shattered and prone. No, I don’t tax the capabilities of a single brain cell wondering how they can justify their immoral position. What I wonder about, and can’t wait to see, is how they will react, how they will explain themselves, how they will criticize America, when the gates of Saddam’s houses of horror are opened before the eyes of the world.

America’s so-called allies make self-satisfying noises about the harm that may come to the Iraqi people during a military campaign. I wonder how they will explain their position to the inmates of Saddam’s children’s prisons, the ones where opponents’ family members are incarcerated in conditions so miserable that even the apologist Scott Ritter can’t bring himself to describe them? How will my own nation, Canada, ever expect to have any moral credibility on the world stage after American Marines show the world the vats of acid men were lowered into simply for the crime of speaking out against the Butcher of Baghdad? We say we care about the United Nations and its legitimacy. Where is the legitimacy in a world body constituted to improve the plight of humankind that makes excuses for a regime that has violated every tenet of civilized behavior that the talking heads in New York and Geneva were supposed to uphold? You know the answer; they have no legitimacy. From the pending genocide in Zimbabwe to the torture cells of Tikrit, the burghers by the river see nothing, nothing that is except the wailing from the families of the Shaheeds in Ramallah, oh how must they be protected from the criminal Jews, who in fact make up the only nation in the Middle East that has ever been half serious about helping the Palestinians build their own state.

In 1945 the world recoiled at the sight of Hitler’s factories of death. We will see scenes in Iraq that will remind us of those awful days, soon dear reader, very soon. Torture, deprivation, starvation, and programs to create the most sinister weapons the world has seen, all collected in one state. No, not weapons designed to defeat an army, not weapons designed to liberate or protect, but weapons of mass murder and mayhem, pointed at us, at them, and most tellingly, the very citizens of that tortured nation. How sophisticated will you look then, oh France? What phony moral authority will you then dredge up to preach to the world about the pushy Americans? How will you, united and free Germany, explain the discovery that for the past decade you’ve illegally rearmed and traded with the Mesopotamian murderer? We’ll see how high your head is held when we see Satan’s handiwork again, but this time in full digital color, not the detached and surreal black and white of the 1940’s that makes it so easy to believe that it was from a distant, no foreign, time and place.

When the sons and daughters of that shining city on the hill prevail, and make no mistake, they will prevail, America will have the unquestionable authority to declare that never again will it give a moment’s concern to the whims and objections of the moral midgets that worship at the altar of collectivism. America should follow up their success in Iraq with the simple yet powerfully symbolic act of striking from the NATO Charter Article 5, that section which commits all to defend one. Naturally, America can and likely will always save the neck of any free people threatened by tyranny, but why, please, should those that would deny liberty to the prisoners we call Iraqi citizens have any assurance that they themselves would not be abandoned by an indifferent world?

Yes, the clouds of war once again drift toward the Fertile Crescent, propelled, not impeded, by the appeasement that gives the tyrant confidence he will again survive. The fallen one again stalks the lands of antiquity. Yet the continent of the Enlightenment, that likes to boast of their grand civilization, sees only a determined America, wounded by a body blow but on its feet and on the hunt, and declares “You must not act! Iraq’s leadership is for Iraqis to decide!” as if a starving and brutalized Iraq can actually rise up against Saddam’s mechanics of murder. Once again, the Land of Liberty sees what Europe can not, and offers it’s precious sons and daughters, its’ truly greatest treasure, to drive the devil back to the fires of hell from whence he came.

Meanwhile, in France they buy books claiming the Americans killed their own on that horrible day in 2001. In Germany, they ridicule the nation that paid with so much blood for their freedom. And in Canada, here, in the one nation that should know better, where we can see the glory of America up close, rest peacefully in our beds protected by her mighty sword, and know better than any that America seeks not to conquer, but to free and protect, we watch an arrogant and petty man who calls himself a leader single-handedly trash the closest friendship between nations that history has ever seen.

So I ask again: What will they say when the dungeons are opened? What will they say to the Iraqi mothers who wonder why it took so long? What will they say when the fathers of murdered children ask why they opposed liberty? What will they say? What will WE say? Indeed.

What will they say?

God Bless America . . . Hey, man, we were just, like, kidding. Land that I love. Stand beside her and . . . what's the rest of the song? Where's my flag?

Apologies to egomaniacal traitors are as foreign to Hollyweird elites as is morality and patriotism and worshipping anywhere else but in front of a mirror. They'll spin ever so eloquently like their hero Pee Wee Clinton and the media will soak it up with orgasmic glee. They're stars! They're stars!

It might've worked in times past but you guys, my fellow FReepers, have convinced a cynical old redneck that those who care the most do have a chance of righting wrongs.

I think they've do-do'ed in their own sandbox this time. With the internet and sites like Free Republic, us silent majority-types won't be in a forgiving mood.

Can you say Hanoi Jane? How about Saddam Sarandon? Or Baghdad Baldwin? Or Koran Kennedy? Or Sheryl Aziz? Or Tariq Garofalo? My fellow FReepers are much more creative than moi and I suspect we won't let the their actions be easily forgotten.

Sorry, guys. My error. Thought it would have been picked up on the proof. I've asked for a correction. Agreed, I should have caught it. But for what it's worth, I'm not trying "to make my living" by writing. Just trying to contribute to the debate.

No offense intended. I hope it doesn't detract from the main point of the essay.

FRegards.
Mitch

BTW, this was originally a vanity post here on FR. It was not an essay for money or publication when it was written. I would hope that counts for something, at least, eh.

Mitch... YOU wrote this?? It is SOOOOO WONDERFUL!!!!!! Sorry... I'm awestruck. This is one of the best essays I've read about the situation and I for one appreciate your taking the time and energy to put it together. I've been waiting to hear someone say exactly what you did. I thought it WAS by a professional writer and pulled off a news site. I saved it to give to my folks to read and also email around to my friends, hope that is okay?

THANK you for posting this for us :-)

All credit must go to Sir Winston Churchill. This quote is originally his, shortened slightly to fit into the FR tagline.

FRegards!!

Sorry, hope I didn't embarrass you... I was a tad crazed with admiration :-) You really should think about writing professionally, it sounds just like something Peggy Noonan would come up with.

Thanks again :-)
