***The Fog Of War***
Stardate: 0302.27

Posted on 02/27/2003 8:52:24 AM PST by The Wizard

Where do I begin without "sinking any ships"

let me say that by this time next week much that seems confused will be clear, and much that seemed to be one way will be seen another.

There is so much I want to share with you about some allies and others, but to do so would be counter productive to our current campaign.

I just wanted to be able to call this up next week and note that I wanted to tell you things that I could not, but the actions of some may be clearer by then, and I want this date on the post for varification.

You will be pleased and proud with many you are unhappy with now, and may better understand the Fog Of War.

For those of you who have Stormin' Norman's presentation to the press after the Gulf War, I would suggest watching it........

I recall it as a summarization of a major ass stomping which showed that little which the press was predicting before the action actually came to pass, and much of the conventional wisdom about how one had to attack an army like the one Iraq fielded was stood on its head.

Am I close?

Neither Blix nor anyone from the UN can even be remotely close to this.

The danger of a leak to the Iraqis is too great. Blix has no idea what is going on, nor does Annan. Giving Blix any information would be akin to inviting Saddam to the War Room to have a look-see into the Plan.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

That's about right. It also showed how the press can be used for disinformation, as when the practice amphibious landings were broadcast and rebroadcast on the 24-hour news cycles before the start of the ground phase. Schwarzkopf explicitly refered to this over-coverage and slyly thanked the press for their help in keeping Saddam's attention away from the real action.

See post #27 above for a link to the briefing video.

When this is wrapped up, reading 'the other site' is going to be such a pleasure!

It's fun to watch lefties as their assumptions wither and their worldview implodes.

That's the conventional thinking since in the past the UN inspectors have been riddled with Iraqi agents. But then, we knew that would be the case, didn't we? Good planning would allow us to use that foreknowledge against the Iraqis. We'll have to see.

Either way, some plan must be in place to get the inspectors out. We've already warned the media and even the human shields to get out, we can't jump off without providing for the inspectors. This may end up being the most interesting part of the deception.

You got that right. Short of having access to classified info, FreeRepublic is simply the best source for intelligence in the free world.

I don't believe the inspectors are in on any of our military plans either. But I have to think that they have been briefed on where to go should war break out while they are in Iraq. Surely there are pre-designated "safehouses" for them. As well, they likely carry satellite phones and other electronic devices that would allow our military to quickly pinpoint their location and thus get them out of there in a hurry, if need be.

Thus, I doubt very much that we will see the inspectors leave Iraq before the start of hostilities. The inspectors leaving Iraq will only telegraph to Saddam that the war is about to start and allow him to go into hiding or ready his biological/chemical weapons. We can't have that. The inspectors must stay until the war starts.

There is an equivalent to the marines parked offshore (Kuwait) in 1991.

Folks, What is being referred to is the scene in which one of the Anchor-Babes whines at Norm,"You LIED to US!" and his return was."Of course we did. We use ALL of the tools in our tool box."

This was in relation to the amphib landing which was a relatively large feint.'

I am beginning to think that there are not too many soldiers out there offshore of turkey.......

I would suggest that the Russkies are letting us use bases...and so are other quiet areas (Jordan?). We are feignting in Kuwait? Turkey?...and coming in other ways.

Good suggestion. There is a lot more going on than what we are hearing and seeing in the "NEWS". I'm thinking ten days tops before it hits the fan.
